History has shown that they'll have access anyway! Plenty of snitch moles!

Management doesn't care what we think - we are just the union membership. What does our opinion have to do with anything?

FWIW ... FedEx management seems to pay abnormally close attention to public bulletin boards like this one. Accordingly, I NEVER post anything I wouldn't want to see in my personnel jacket. I've heard rumor that management even turned over public bulletin board postings to the union for "disciplinary" action.

This medium is sort of like putting a bug in managements ear as to what we line pilots are really thinking instead to the usual rump kissers looking to get themselves into the mgt "brother-in-law-club."

But I said "unfettered" access, and that includes manglers making posts while masquerading as a line pilot, just to stir your pot.

Of course our password protected on line union forum (which I do not read) is certainly compromised, but the postings are not anonymous, you have to sign your name. Manglement reads every word, every day. But they can't directly post.

My advice: take your grievances about ALPA through ALPA channels, and your contract grievances through your negotiated contract grievance procedure, no matter how fouled up the processes seem. Venting on this public forum does you, your union reps, ALPA, or even Federal no good. JMHO

PS You aren't alone down there in toon town. We have our issues too.

Our union leadership is not listening. If they were--we wouldn't be here. Our own block reps signed a POS letter rolling over without a fight on the issue in the interest of "unity".

If the letter had shown up missing a couple signatures, I'd be calling my rep. It wasn't, and I'm not.

I can tell you for a fact that they have people monitoring postings on the internet. During my time as a Sysop on the old FedEx forum on AVSIG (97-98), I used to cross post stuff between AOL and CS. I had a meeting with Dennis B. the Monday after Black Thursday for, something stupid that I had done (send an email to FWS will get you some face time with the CP ) and he slid a whole stack of stuff in front of me. I challenged him to find anything that I said bad about the company or an individual, used profanity, and/or anything else less than professional (not including my email to FWS ), and that most of the stuff was other people's content that I was just cross posting between the two message boards. He said "fair enough" and dropped the issue of the interent postings, but they have their people watching!

The most prudent thing to do is to assume that management is watching and reading and making notes on everything, including any guesses as to your real identity and the fact that it may use what you say against you. All the more reason to be careful of what you say, although this does not mean that you withhold from participating in any productive dialogue. As my fighter friend said to me "check your 6." I have no rooster in this cockfight, but I care about the wellbeing of real, legitimate APC members who are real, legitimate pilots.

At the risk of offending anyone by getting back to the topic of this thread, did anyone attend the Hubturn Meeting that would care to give a brief report?

It was tense. Speakers were professional, and gave the same explanation you've read here as to how all this came about. Questions were emotional and answers were not well received.

I could bottom-line my impressions, but to be honest I spent the whole meeting doubled over, breathing into my hands, trying not to hyperventilate. These were nice guys, and one of them (John L.) did me a great service once when he was pro stans. But all I could think of were my kids, and the fact I will lose many thousands over this, and my union didn't lift a finger. For 20 years they fought it, yes, but not this time.

These nice, professional men rejected multiple attempts at this argument: our MEC could have opposed the rule change, and the outcome would have been the same. We still would have lost the fight, but our guys would have gotten a swing or two in before we hit the canvas.

But, we got a Profile in Courage instead. To what end, I don't know - though there were some dark references last night to national ALPA aspirations. Whatever... I hope it was worth it.

And to my inevitable detractors - go ahead. Tell us we need to just be thankful. Tell us we just don't understand true "leadership." Ask me how many airlines I've worked at (again), or if I was military or how I'm all about me me me......

What you'll be doing is jamming home a nasty idea that's growing in my head - that I'm just a piece of a member, at any rate until I'm up in top half of the list, and the left side of the cockpit....
