Again we are CVG based...all our pairings have to by contract start and end in domicile. That said if the trip actually starts somewhere other than CVG the company has to get you there, if its KILN they will limo you there, if its ABE they will airline you there. If they got rid of your home basing I am guessing they would be smart enough to pick 1 or 2 domiciles and try to start and stop the flights there just like every other airline does that does not have home basing.
Home basing is common in ACMI due to the tendency to have pop up last minute and 1 off type flying. Not so common when you have regularly scheduled flying. UPS and FDX like most passenger carriers have domiciles and do not home base. There is very little need in the DHL system as our flight always start in DHL's hub. Amazon will not see a huge value in it either when the super hub is open in CVG. It is just a cost to be used for your management to use to beat you down for QOL contract items as they could run the airline just fine if they scheduled thru a couple of domiciles.
So in the end they ( your company) would save huge if they got rid of home basing as you would now be responsible for getting yourself to domicile. Typically that would involve driving an hour or so and riding an airplane to work....similar to what you do now.

So are most trips scheduled in a way that ends up being commutable by riding the DHL system into CVG or will you need a crashpad?

Yes. The only difficulty is generally on weekends as there are very few DHL flights on Saturday & Sunday. In five years, I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've had to show up a day early, and one of those was because of a temporary schedule change.

ATI has somewhere between 15 and 20 flights that pass through CVG & ILN every day. It's probably much easier than you think to build schedules that minimize the number of commercial deadheads that would be required. At a minimum rate of 30 pilots passing through CVG/ILN every day, that's 900 transitions per month, which is a lot of opportunities to move 500 pilots in and out of the system without needing a deadhead. And the more Amazon flights you add, the easier it gets as more of them will be going through CVG.

That's disappointing. Everything I had been hearing was pointing to 3. And that third one probably represents my upgrade.

I've been flying with a few of the 'senior' f/o's and wouldn't be surprised to see one or two of them decide to take a future spot. That will keep your dreams on deferral for a bit longer (can you say category "D" deferral .

So… is that 8/5 a calendar date? Or 8 to 5 odds? 😂

Thanks
