ABX vs Omni?
Anyone know the pros and cons of each, minus home basing? Live within driving distance of CVG so either way would be fine. Mostly interested in retirement comparisons and the ability to pick up extra pay. I understand they’re both 16/14. Thanks in advance

Insurance
* Omni provides $100K life and AD&D
* ABX provides life and AD&D at 150% of base salary up to a maximum benefit of $225,000.
* ABX STD: 50% of base pay up to $1,200 per week. Crewmember pays 0.1% of base salary up to $2.40 per pay period.
* ABX LTD: 60% of base salary up to $10,000 per month, up to 5 years. Company pays premiums.
* Omni’s CBA does not specify what STD/LTD will be. Company pays LTD, crewmember pays for STD.
Sick leave
* Omni 7 days per year
* ABX 12 days per year
* Omni caps sick leave accrual at 75 days.
* ABX has no sick leave cap. Anything over 100 days goes into a STD/LTD bank (i.e. used to make up the difference between STD/LTD and full pay).
* ABX gives you 12 days up front after IOE.
* Omni begins accruing sick leave at date of hire.
Vacation
* Omni
* 1 – 6 years: 1.0 days/month (12 days/year)
* 7 – 9 years: 1.17 days/month (14 days/year)
* 10 plus years: 1.5 days/month (18 days/year)
* ABX
* Less than one (1) year as of December 31st: 1 day for each month of service.
* 1 - 5 years: 14 days.
* 5 - 15 years: 21 days.
* 15+ years: 28 days.
Both have a vacation slide for vacation days that overlap days off. Omni also allows those days to be taken at a different time, or to be paid over guarantee for the month.
Omni allows 14 days of vacation carryover from one year to the next.
There is no vacation carryover at ABX. They get assigned one way or another during the vacation bid. There is a provision for trading vacation weeks.
Retirement
* ABX 401(k): company contributes 5% plus a 100% match up to 3.5% of gross wages. No contractual cap. Company contributions vest over 5 years.
* Omni matches 100% up to 5% of gross wages, subject to a $10,000 cap if gross wages exceed $120,000 per year. Company match vests over 5 years.
Picking up extra time at ABX will be easy living near CVG. There are opportunities for 150%, 175%, and 200% overtime trips. Emails go out nearly every day looking for coverage of regular trips and R1s (airport reserve).
I would consider not having to do the terminal bag drag and ride in coach with the hoi polloi to get to and from work to be a major benefit of ABX when you live near CVG. We have some commercial deadheads, but you easily can go months without ever seeing the inside of an airport terminal. There are also a number of "Cincinnati appreciation days" that fall into many regular lines. You can easily spend a few extra days at home every month.

Thanks for the details. Sounds like an intriguing option. Is ABX in negotiations as well?

Unless things have changed quite a lot, you won't be riding in coach much at Omni, or at least not for very long. If they send you to a domestic mx base to start your trip, perhaps, but from CVG the worst that could happen would be SEA. More likely you'll be sent overseas in business to catch up to a plane.

I’ve worked at both ABX (previous contract) and Kalitta (so similar situation to Omni). I had an apartment in Florence while at ABX….and if it were my “home” it would have been awesome. Alas…..I had a two leg, all RJ commute to get there….so it sucked. Bounced over to K4 for the home basing and it was soooo much better….barring all else just for the home basing. So if you’re looking to do some ACMI flying…it completely depends on where you live. You live near CVG. ABX may be good for you. Live in Missoula, MT? Not so much. The flying is also very different. Want to do one long leg to somewhere cool and layover for a while? Omni. Be home more? ABX.
if you want to fly, ABX
if you want to be paid well to do 200-400 hrs a year, with lots of days off all over the world, Omni
