Thanks god DW has once again thrown his hat in the ring to give us his view of this LOA. I already thought we received the majority and minority viewpoints. Why am I now getting his personal sales pitch. Does this mean WE all get access to ALPA's e-mail so we can give our opinion of this LOA. DW, if this LOA was so great why are you up on the stump giving us your two cents?? Please don't bother. I can read and don't need another "red letter" from you.

From DW:
Life in either one of the proposed crew bases will certainly require pilots and their families to carefully consider the challenges. China is still a communist nation and the rapid growth in that country creates its own problems.
...and they want us to volunteer to go over there? I like tackling a good challenge when one comes up - but you gotz to be kidding!
You go first DW.
still voting NO.

...Finally, the terms of this LOA were negotiated with an eye towards fairness. Fairness towards the pilots in these bases of course, but also towards all pilots. Everyone, no matter where you are based, has a responsibility to provide housing, food, transportation and all the other requirements of life for their family. The amount of the allowances contained in this LOA was intended to provide the overseas pilots with additional income to offset, not eliminate, their obligations...
Uhhh...You left out the educating your kids obligation...
Are these guys drug tested?
Fairness? Fairness would give all 4800 of us the opportunity to bid one of these FDAs. While maintaining something near our present standard of living.
This LOA is not fair. It was clearly written to entice single or empty nester pilots to go and rent an apartment. Or, possibly to wave that Capt's seat carrot out in front of F/Os willing to bid an FDA in order to gain the left seat. On a "B" scale, and basically, out of seniority. Fair? YGTSM!!

...Please take the time to review all this information even if you are not considering an overseas bid as there are many important aspects to this LOA that could ultimately affect everyone on the seniority list....
Is this an admission that anyone could possibly be STV'd? I thought it was going senior and all would be on a European/Asian Holiday!!!

Ummm DW....don't try to sell used cars for a living. You and your family would get very hungry. Once again, the Union leadership pi$$ing down my back and trying to convince me it's raining. Did I already say I'm voting NO on this POS LOA??!!

I've known DW for 15 years or so and can say infadicly he is, was and (IMHO) will continue to be one of the strongest advocates for this pilot force. Having said that, I think he's looking too far downstream regarding our needs (contractually) and personally feels we should take half a loaf now so as to better negotiate a full loaf later. The problem with this logic is, we will have to live with the ramifications of this LOA now!!
I truly believe that if the company truly though that this move package and cost up provisions was such a good deal (to the FedEx pilots, not the bottom line) they would not have poisoned it with the STV provisions, assuring staffing even if the FDA's cannot be staffed via the "enhanced" options provided.
Much of what is wrong with this LOA is what isn't mentioned either by DW in his letter or previous ALPA messages regarding the LOA. Trust me is never a good way to do business, whether buying a house or dealing with your employer regarding work rules and other employment provisions. FedEx is trying to improve their business model on our backs. Be assured the optimizer will work its magic in both CDG and HKG saving the company money and giving them the flexibility they can only have with pilots based in these two locations. Lets not sell ourselves short by signing off on this document. We have the union and companies attention, let them know, in no uncertain terms how will feel about the terms agreed by our union.
