FDX MEC Chairman Msg on LOA

Still NO. It seems like the company and the Union just keep repeating the same ridiculous arguments to us. Stop me if you've already heard "this LOA wasn't intended to be a financial windfall for anyone" or "pilots already pay for private school in the U.S." Or my favorite, "STV isn't intended to involuntarily send pilots to these FDA's for 3 months at a time. We think it'll go senior." Can't wait for the MD-11 FDA in Mumbai to open up, I suppose that'll go senior too.
If the company truly wants FDX pilots doing this flying, they (and the union) could have done better than this. Nobody's looking for a financial windfall, just something to maintain the status quo. Oh yeah, and have the option of giving our kids an education.
Big NO.

Two thoughts - first of all, I see identical language in the email from JL and the one from DW. Anytime both the union and the company are telling me in the same words that something is good for me, I get suspicious.
Second - many mentions of "personal choice" by the company. Having a wife and/or kids is a personal choice. Well, yeah, but the reason I left the military is so I wouldn't HAVE to decide between my family and my job. Accepting a job with FedEx was a personal choice as well.
Regarding the "personal choice" and the cost of living: I am based in MEM, but I do not live there. I choose to live somewhere else that enhances my quality of life. If I bid the CDG or HKG FDA, I lose my ability to live where I want - I must live within 100 nm of the FDA. So my "personal choice" to bid the FDA now becomes the company's choice as to where I live.
I think I will make one more "personal choice" and vote NO on this LOA.

Isn't MEM DW's crew base? Is anyone else frustrated by this?

Maybe it's just me, but DW's gang email really p1sses me off. We had the majority and minority opinions. That was fair and reasonable. The MEC hears the grumblings and, voila, dog&pony road shows and a personal viewpoint from DW. His email just tilts the balance for the morons who won't actually read this turd. I'm a Union committee guy. How about affording me the opportunity to counter DW's assertions via the ALPA email chain and rebalance the ALPA opinions? I'm looking at the same LOA and I see one good, one poor and a mess load of sh1tty. One gem that someone came up with to get more crew members listening was 'how will you like this when they open the Mumbai MD-11 FDA?'

Contrasting DW's housing allowance with the LOA is only made more staggering by this quote from his message line:
"Fairness towards the pilots in these bases of course, but also towards all pilots. Everyone, no matter where you are based, has a responsibility to provide housing, food, transportation and all the other requirements of life for their family. The amount of the allowances contained in this LOA was intended to provide the overseas pilots with additional income to offset, not eliminate, their obligations."
