6. Copenhagen
7. Geneva
8. Osaka
9. Zurich

Based on the ranking of 143 cities. Because of the falling value of the dollar, the only US city to make the list at 14 was New York.

...and combining international cost index data, with US cost index data and making Memphis a 100 score we get:

Memphis - 100
NYC - 140
Paris - 143
HKG - 153

(...and these costs indexes were for food, goods and services --- not housing...we all know the multiples for equivalent housing would range in the 300-400% range)

Since New York is on the list at 14, try this link:

http://www.bestplaces.net/col/

You put what your salary is and where you live then make sure you put New York, NY and it will spit out a salary that you must make there to maintain your standard of living, pretty cool! Who knows how accurate this is.

To maintain the same standard of living, your salary of $215,000 in Memphis, Tennessee should increase to $447,706 in New York, New York
Stated another way, it's 108.2% more expensive to live in New York, New York than Memphis, Tennessee
