I too was in the AOC two days prior to the end of the vote. I was working on a computer and overheard 3 older guys next to me. One started out saying how he was voting for it because the MEC says the LOA is good so it's got to be good. The other 2 agreed with him. There was no discussion on any elements of the LOA.
We'd sit back, shake our heads, and self-righteously think to ourselves "no wonder all the problems exist in that community..." Based on our voter turnout, and some of the reports here - I'm guessing half the voters had not read the documents. But, the buses showed up on schedule, instructions were given, votes were cast, glasses of sweet ice tea handed out...... No question that apathy is bad. Ignorant voters - I wish we were above that level. I truly hope we don't hear any "I didn't know that!" "How can they do that!" type comments from any who voted yes. The founding fathers did have some good ideas for voting that never materialized. |

Would you care for a cracker and some cooking sherry? I must say, your eyes look quite lovely in the glow of the trash fires. I'm sorry, what was that again? I could not quite make it out over the police sirens. But you cannot leave yet! I 'ave already paid your bar fine!" :D |

Most, if not all, not having the slightest idea of any of the issues, or candidates positions.

What does DP stand for? 3. What does STV stand for? The number of votes would have been cut in half and we would have had an informed decision. |
Hmmmm. I was wrong.
This LOA is a good deal. 2253 of my fellow pilots say so. So I guess with so many of them thinking this is a good deal, the FDAs will go senior, and I won't have to worry about being invol'ed to an STV. And with so many saying that it's a good deal, I guess we don't need to spend negotiating capital to make it better next time around. Silver linings in every cloud... |

The founding fathers did have some good ideas for voting that never materialized. It would be nice if people who vote on an issue were informed voters. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. I see this as a flaw in our democracy. It is everyone's right to vote but wouldn't it be nice if they knew all the issues and implications of that vote? |
<< I think a few big brothers at the table may be a tad greedy, and maybe some of the family includes some pretty weak sisters ... >>
Excuse me ... but when you want to refer to a weak, sniveling, "the sky is falling" weenie, who can't be bothered to read a proposed LOA for himself because he's too friggin' lazy, then call him what he is. GUTLESS - for sure. SPINELESS - obviously. NUTLESS - in spades. But it's an insult to your union sisters, especially those of us who have been very outspoken on the LOA issue, to call them "weak sisters". We, your union sisters who had to fight just to be accepted in this business, deserve better than that from you, our union brothers. Call them what they are -- WEAK [RICHARDS]. But NOT weak sisters. They can't touch us. |
Nancy, is that you?
|
It is I, outspoken as ever.
