The voting for the FDA LOA closed this morning at 10:00 a.m. EDT and the LOA has been ratified.

The results of the balloting on the Foreign Duty Assignment (FDA) Letter of Agreement (LOA) are as follows:

Votes Cast: 3308 (79.29% participation)
Votes For: 2253 (68.11%)
Votes Against: 1055 (31.89%)

Your MEC stands firmly on the process that has brought this LOA about. Also, the MEC would like to thank our pilots for the high participation rate in this vote. It shows the continuing involvement of our pilot group and engagement in the issues relating to their profession.

We think the pilots have made a prudent decision and the MEC intends to hold management's feet to the fire regarding the terms of the LOA and the quality of life of FedEx pilots based in Foreign Duty Assignments as FedEx’s international expansion continues.

I know this isn't the result that a great number of people on this site wanted, but it's time to accept the vote of the membership and start getting this union back to the level of unity that we were at before the last contract. Just my opinion.

On the side letter vote: 7 for out of 11 is 63.6 %

Nice to see nearly 80% participation, though. Wow.

One important thing to note is that even if we had a 100% turnout and all of the votes that we not cast were put into the no catagory, it still would have passed. If my math is right, if all of the non voters were to cast a no, the no side would have ended up with 1910....still passes.

Not what I personally wanted to see, but it's what the MAJORITY wanted. What a concept, huh? Let's get on with it and keep an eye out for the optimizer, etc...

But this issue, along with other recent events, makes me question my confidence in the MEC. Next vote for my rep will be based on a litmus test of LOA, Age 60, and VEBA.
This LOA rewards older, empty-nest pilots looking for one more fling before they turn 65. The younger pilots hoping to upgrade to a wide-body seat can fly all the STV trips they want from Nov to Jan and a few choice months during Typhoon season.
Take a good look at the great pairings in the Aug and Sep bid packs. Now that the company knows that we'll fly disputed pairings no matter how bad they make them and we'll work more for less, future bids packs may not look so good.
This LOA is far from a stepping stone to a better CBA in the future. It is more like the first step onto a plank in shark infested waters. Hang onto your hats boys and girls.

I am shocked at the level of participation. I didn't expect that many voters. Good on everyone who voted.

I am extremely disappointed in the results, but will of course live with them. I'll definitely stay away from the 75 for the next couple of years though, don't want to end up in Paris for Christmas.

I remain disappointed in our MEC and NC as well, but that is probably a subject for another thread. Hope to be able to attend the joint council meeting on Tues (on reserve) so I can vote for the recall effort.

That shouldn't be too difficult.

Isn't this an oxymoron? Doesn't it contradict itself? In other words, the MEC intends to hold management to the loosely worded weak LOA if they can?
