WHEN and HOW did it even get off course in the first place?!! WHO drove it off course? Seriously, get a grip on yourself. Your emotion and reckless remarks are embarassing us as a crew force. The 2283 people who voted for this aren't ALL stupid or misinformed. You sound like a babbling 2 year old that didn't get its way. Tough break, move on and do your job professionally. |

Paper Tiger's
LOA vote:
Major disappointment. But, no big surprise. Its going to take a long time and some very strong leadership to mold this pilot group into a real labor union. Maybe, that's why were called an "association". We have been engaged in what I would call "collective begging", not collective bargaining for the past 10 years. We'll continue to get, not what the company can afford, not what we deserve...But, whatever our benevolent(?) management wants to throw to us. Until, we actually demonstrate some resolve on some issue. I think we just missed a great opportunity. I shudder to think what we'd have as a contract, if we worked for a Crandall, or Ferris or similar executive. Think about being a part of the ALPA negotiating committee for this group. What do they use as negotiating capital? Threats? Of what? The pilots will put more stickers on their bags? The pilots will wear even bigger lanyards? Talk about lack of leverage. Does anyone think that our management respects our association as a labor union? I don't think for one minute that this management is concerned about us as a labor group. I know I wouldn't be. So, life goes on. The company will open the FDAs under the LOA. The slots will be filled at a more junior level than should be. Dp's will continue to be flown. FedEx will continue to make record profits. And, we'll continue to wonder why our quality of life is continually deteriorating. Nicely done. |

I've made my case. I thought the LOA was flawed, but the majority didn't. Tonight I'll turn my lanyard back from inside out--the vote is over. I'll try to get more involved in future efforts--perhaps as a committee volunteer or a block rep. The difference in my attitude is the MEC at least gave us a vote. Not happy with age 60 handling, but this one I at least got to have my say. Unity isn't decided by the MEC. We decide what unity is. I think everyone agrees that we wanted the FDAs manned by our pilots and we want the guys and gals to go there to have a good Q of life--one that a Fortune 200 company can afford. We also don't want guys and gals junior manned to make that happen. This difference of opinion wasn't over the final vision, but rather the best way to get there. Some thought sending this back would get the results faster, but the majority has decided to take the good parts and postpone the fight a few years. I am disappointed in some of the tone of communications from some our union leadership. I'm also thrilled with the fix to the STVs and the amount of effort some of our MEC put into trying to make it better and also to get the word out on some of the issues. So--what now? We work together--educate or change some of the components of our MEC--and remember that this was a family feud--nothing more. We can fight amongst ourselves, but we are still family. I think a few big brothers at the table may be a tad greedy, and maybe some of the family includes some pretty weak sisters (:D--), but you are my family anyway. We'll get through this and move on to the next challenge. I'll vote for you as a block rep. |

Pick out a good one, take your time, since you don't have to worry about union stuff. Management and the MEC will take care of all your needs. Hope this helps.............:p |
To one and all,
Yep this piece of pie sucks. No getting around it. The night before the vote I was in the AOC - my first flt in 41 days - and I talked 20+ people only one said he was voting for it. The next night I was back in the AOC and I talked to 4 or 5 who said they voted for it in all its glory. Not one of them had any concrete reason. 2 had not even read the LOA..... 1 had no idea what the STV was or why it was bad.... Folks the lemmings have spoken. I will not whine, too loudly, and I will not take my ball and go home ala' RL. The union is all of us and I do not want to leave it to the people who did not even take the time to read an LOA that will affect (not effect) everyone of us.... I will not bid these FDA's and I hope it does work for the single guys and the empty nesters....good luck. Time to move on. Time to fix what we can.... Time to call in sick or fatigued to put the only check we have on the "new" optimizer. PS. Albie, great meeting you on the JS last night. I'll vote for you. If you ever need help up in this part of the world with your other endevour, call me, I can BS with the best of them.... |

I agree completely. The MEC paid our money to a tax expert to brief them on TE and we have a right to that info from the expert.
