Where's the Bid?
#42
C'mon guys. They could put out any "bid packet" and change it the next month just like they do with all the other jets/domiciles. I suspect the first year or so there will be fairly dramatic schedule changes month to month as they sort out the routes/cities/loads/times etc. If you want some set in concrete, an FDA is going to be no better than MEM,LAX, ANC or SFS.

All true but I am sure they know if the hubturns will be 3, 4, or 5 times a week. Which cities are going to be serviced. How many lines. The basic info isn't going to change much. From there I can do the math myself.

So if the company puts out a Nice sample Bid pack for either HKG or CDG would you bid it based on that? Remember when they published the sample LAX Bid packs or the Sample Bid packs from the TA contract of 98?
I agree it would be nice to see sample schedules, but I wouldn't put much faith in them, as history has dictated.

But didn't the MEC tell us the company was to be trusted on things like their intention on not using STV's? Can't we trust them to honor their intentions on sample bid lines then as well? I mean they sure got that tax and moving info out just like the MEC said they would when we voted on the LOA. OOPS..I just read my Block 4 update. I'm confused now....

[QUOTE=FDXLAG;241660]So we agree some info is better than no info, sooner is better than latter, and the company is not to be trusted on FDAs. That is what I said before the vote, but I am almost over it.[/QUOTE
I am glad and your almost over it. And your right never trust them,
Because the Sample bid packs most likely won't reflect reality

From: One foot in the garbage bag...
This morning, when I ended the shutdown checklist on the 727 with the callout "debrief", I got from the captain: "You guys got anything? Anything Normy?
[I actually hate my name "Norman" and I intend to change it!]
The guy I flew with this morning is a nice guy and a great Captain. But I did fly with one guy who debriefed me about EVERYTHING I did that was non-standard or not correct for the whole flight. When I called "debrief" he literally had a list of things. "When we started engine #2 you delayed for a few seconds your start of engine number three. Why did you do that?" I have no idea why I did that. If I had to guess, something caught my eye, and I just wanted to make sure that it was correct before we continued. What the hell is the problem? Would you prefer a broken airplane or would you prefer me to examine something, find a problem , and then bring it to your attention? My delay amounted to 4 seconds. Christ, is it a big ****ing deal or what?
The odd thing about this captain was that he wasn't so interested in whether I did things correctly. I've come to the conclusion that he wants a certain "cadence". The engines need to be started right away! With little time between them. He wants to save fuel according to the fuel iniative, but won't do a two-engine taxi? The timing and the cadence are EVERYTHING to this man.
[OK, fine...it's not a big deal, but why do people have to be this way-?]
All of this puts tremendous pressure on me, as a new SO. New SO? I have 500 hours on the panel at a previous airline, 1000 hours as FO, and 1000 hours as Captain of a 727 !
FO's hate him too. When you are his FO, you are basically the second auto-pilot. He tells you exactly when to decend, and what airspeed you should be at about every 60 seconds. I don't know how FO's actually work without this guy around...or maybe I'm just being facetious. All the way down I listened to him telling his FO how to fly. I'm serious- me with 2500 hours in 727's from another 727 operator that has gone out of business...I felt at times that I wanted...no simply needed...to tell him to shut the **** up!
[sorry-]
This guy isn't an assh*le at all. In fact I learned a lot from him and I am a better SO as a result. And in person he's a GREAT guy! But if he shows up on my schedule again, I have to say that I will consider calling in sick. The sad part: There is no way to tell him that he's a "Cockpit *******" other than websites like these!
Pro-standards? Sure. Try flying a trip after a trip to PS. I did it one time, you could cut the air in the cockpit with a knife and build houses with the blocks...
Oh well.

Friend of mine had as much 727 time as you and was getting IOE on the panel here as a new-hire.
They were doing the full approach into Casper, with a procedure turn. He estimated the fuel they would burn and wrote down the landing weight.
The LCA got mad because he didn't use the standard fuel burn subtraction. My friend said that, based on his experience, they were going to burn more doing the full approach down low. He was told he "couldn't use his experience" in his calculations. I sh!t you not.
