Default UPS System Bid

Off of airupsers.com today-

System Bid to Create 56 New Captains
AirUPSers.com

The next system bid tentatively will open on August 15. This bid plans to add pilots to the A300 and the MD-11 for future aircraft acquisitions. There also should be vacancies on the DC-8 in anticipation of future Menlo flying. The B-757 will have a few vacancies to replace age 60 retirements.
The bid will contain approximately 56 new CPT positions and 22 new F/O positions. Additionally, probationary crew members hired prior to February '05 are planned to be allowed to participate in the system bid. This should allow the first probationary F/Es to hold upgrades.

Default Pilot Pool

Freighter Captain,

I have been lucky enought to be put into the UPS pilot pool as of August 10th. Do you know how pilots are picked for classes and is there anyway to improve your chances? Sorry if you have already covered this, I am new to Airline Pilot Central. Any info would be greatly appriciated.

OOTSK-

Congratulations are in order! Way to go. Once you're in the pool there's not much you can do. Just sit tight, enjoy your pre-UPS days to the fullest extent, and know that you're just a phone call away from sitting in class. Cool, huh?

The hardest part will be the wait. But hey, it sure beats getting the "no thanks" letter.

Default UPS Pool

OOTSK,

As a current poolie let me tell you that the FC is right. I have been in for 7 months now and still waiting.......

It goes by the score they gave you on your interview. The better score the early you will get pulled out. BUT, when others interview after you and get a better score then you, they get pulled out before you. The best advice is just to forget about UPS. I was told expect to be pulled out very soon. That wa back in Feb. So I sat around and did nothing that I wanted to do. Too busy saving my money for the big $$ cut. Well, the hell with it. I have been out doing what I want, remodeling the house and whatever else for the past 3 months.

So, a poolie letter is better then a 'no thanks', but at least you don't hang out wait for a call. Becuase it is just over. Met a guy who has been in the pool for 3 years. He did the re-interview and was placed back in the pool a second time.

Have a nice day

Pax2cargo,

Thanks for the info. I am glad I have a job right now for the time being. I won't be quick to turn in my letter of resignation. Thinking back on my interview, I really didn't get any feedback. I quess I will just wait and try not to let it drive me crazy.

Godd luck to you and hope to see you in class or on line.

I met some UPS recruiter named Andy Solum in the early 90's at a FAPA job fair. He was so bizzare that I decided against even applying. Is that guy still around? I know he was only one person, but it sure seems strange that UPS would select such a "strange agent" to represent them.
