Default UPS hiring window closing Nov 15th

The UPS application window will close November 15th. Everyone who applied in 2007 or any previous year will need to re-apply once the window opens again in 2008. The window could open again in January but that will depend on UPS's 2008 hiring forecast which is still to be determined.

Anyone who interviewed in 2007 and received a "pool" letter does not need to re-apply. Anyone who interviewed in 2007 and was "rejected" can re-apply six months after the date of interview.

When did the window open? I sense a bit of a disconnect here. If we aren't hiring, why bother with the window? We have enough in the pool already to cover any short term need that might arise. Something going on here?

There will be hiring in 2008, it's just not known how many-- but certainly less than was done in 2007.

Just this week a friend of mine was called for an interview in December, FWIW.

I have to admit, I'm a little confused, if there is to be little/no hiring in 2008, why are they still interviewing? I thought that there were already 50 plus in the pool as of September?

Preparing for a potentially long swim.................

Does anyone know if someone didn't pass the online assessment do they need to wait 6 months? In other words is it considered rejected?

Thanks

Good question and here is what I think. If you don't know what's going to happen with the age 65 legislation and think that there could be a considerable delay then it would make sense to get guys / gals into your pool as insurance. It's a lot easier to pull from the pool than to crank up interviews / new hires quickly. We only interview two people a day. This is all my opine of course.
