Thanks for the answers.
Now, reading the contract language above, how is either of those situations different than the third bullet, that being that a trip show between Thanksgiving and Dec 31st?
If the company MUST offer the option to request AVA (not necessarily grant the request) when they cancel vacations they must also do the same for any trip that meets the third requirement as well, the way the contract is written.
That might not have been the intent, but I don't see how you can read it any other way. I am going to get back with Contract Enforcement and/or my block rep about this on Monday.
Thanks again for the replies everybody.

Well since you specifically asked for MHO, I think the out the Company is using is contained in section 1 of your contract quote. They are treating it as a "both 1 and 2 must be met" type situation.
1. AVA shall be available and assigned to all eligible pilots beginning 7 days prior to showtime for that assignment, based on the reserve forecast.
Since the reserve forcast for your seat is way more reserves than open time, no AVA, despite the provisions of section 2 being met.
Just my $.02 worth, as I'm no lawyer, and have not stayed at a Holiday Inn Express in a long time.

I agree with the above statements, although I'm not anywhere near the expert on AVA, as I've only done it once in my time here. But I will add that although the contract says "7 days prior to show time", what it really means is 7 days times 24 hours or 168 hours from the exact minute the trip shows. At that moment, crew scheduling can award you that trip, and not one minute before (at least theoretically.) Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Happy Thanksgiving to ALL.

Figure this: if the company adds a leg a day for most/all of us, the manning is flush, there is no need to hire, and DW and his cronies just LOA'd us into the concept of expanding our future int'l flying at a huge discount. And allowed SVT to boot.
Of course, "it'll go too senior for you to worry about it."
Wrong again. The leadership on this whole saga the last 6 months has been embarrassing. More work at less pay. Maybe we can get a video of the company party celebrating their success this year. No doubt it will be a good one.

Thanks again for the responses guys. The real question though, JJ and 727pilot, is:
Is the company required to offer the ability to input AVA requests during months when they cancel vacations (either voluntarily or involuntarily)?
I ask, because if so, [as there is no difference in the qualifiers for those two situations and the third (Thanksgiving to Dec 31st) situation], they must also offer that ability when the trip shows between Thanksgiving and Dec 31st.
Thanks again for your responses.
cma, we are back to a 5 week Dec bid period next year.

I guess I can call off the dogs. I emailed the MEC and Contract Enforcement
today.
Contract Enforcement says that it is the company's option to offer AVA when they cancel vacations.
I must admit defeat.
Thanks for all the responses.
