Sorry, but it looks like you're wrong on that.
"Sec. 44729. Age standards for pilots

part; and
(3) Is otherwise qualified for the operation for which he is to be
used.

I still think that the over 60 guys at UPS are not going to realize a huge windfall due to this (very likely) rule change.
If UPS decides to retire the classics (maybe they will change their minds now because of the rule change??) the more junior FEs may actually fare better than the senior FEs, because they will be displaced first.
It is possible that the most junior pilot on a DC8 could be the Captain under the right (or wrong) circumstances.

One thing that is certain is this - it is what it is. Whether we discuss it online or in the cockpit, the rule will still be the rule.
I'm in my mid-30's and to be honest, I'm very neutral on this topic - like I said, it is what it is. On the one hand, I very well could have retired at 60 or possibly sooner. On the other hand, I just got a $5 million raise in total compensation if I decide to work to 65. I guess it depends on how you look at it. I tend to see it as it is and try to make the best of the situation.

So what you are saying was that if it was the old pay scales you wouldn't want to come back? Or are you saying you only want to stay because of the new pay scales?
Or are you saying since everyone (young and old) worked together to get those "new" pay scales the ones who should benefit from it the most are one certain (age dependent?) group?
Help me out, I'm obviously confused by what your point is.

How many years did you do in the military? Did you get a retirement over there too? Inquiring minds want to know.

I agree with you that it is what it is. However, one point of contention is that this may NOT be a $5 million dollar raise. It is just deferred income that you could have made as a CA earlier in your career but now will have to wait to get. This means that I HAVE to work to 65 just to be able to realize my financial goals in the retirement arena. But, now I'm just happy to be able to sit for 5 more years on reserve...
