For those who want an official recap of the town hall meeting, go to the ALPA web site and read Block Rep 6 message. SM also plans to put out a recap on the MEC meeting on the 15th.

I really don't worry about being sold down the river, it is just a matter of when. But I know what you mean. The whole furlough thing, it is not fun I have done it myself a time or two and I do not like it at all. The only time most of the membership shows up is right before their pocketbook is about to take a hit, or they think it is going to happen. With dw saying have your finances in order is not the right scare tactic to be using in this situation. More comm is good thanks for posting guys!!!

Just based on those numbers...I'd say the majority of folks don't really seem that concerned about what our union is doing for them...Otherwise, you'd think more would go to their meeting.
Once again, it's easy to talk the talk. How about walking the walk? You want something changed. Get involved!! Seriously.
I'm starting to think that maybe the monikers, "vocal minority" and "proponents of hysteria" may be closer to the truth than I had hoped.

commuters
Careful...you're about to get attacked by the commuters who think they should get paid to look out for their careers and won't ever come to MEM or stay an extra day in town to go to a meeting......their free time is far more valuable than ours.
Micro manages to be at every meeting and he lives in New Hampshire or something silly like that. Albie commuted in from the panhandle of Florida....
I know some dissatisfied members who were sitting reserve yesterday in the crashpad and didn't feel the need to go despite my encouragement (and reminders that at a minimum....it was a free lunch)
I know we ought to get into the twentieth century (at least) and have a better way....but until we do...this is the system we got.

Yah, I know. I'm a commuter, as well. And, it is a pain to go up for a meeting.
However, there has to be more than 16 guys out of 1025, that live in the MEM area. And, like you said, all the reserves?
As much as I would like a 21st century communication system...Nothing beats a face-to-(red)face, finger waving, voice raised discussion, to get someone's attention. BC sure got people's attention with his.

Any way you cut it, the MEC is doing a LOUSY JOB OF COMMUNICATING!!

Yes, they went out there in Nov. and talked to 50 or so guys. From what I understand, it was a very frank meeting, and they explained the MEC's position on the LOA's very well. But that is still only 50 guys down and about 2000 others to go. And one trip in a year to one of the outlying domiciles, still does not make for good communication. Webcasts, webcasts, webcasts! That is what is needed.

not a SFS guy but I was at the meeting. Big showing from what I could tell... they had buses from the hotel for the layover guys, it was standing room around the pavilion. I'm going to estimate 50 pilot's there.. plus familys a pretty good showing. DM and WR were there from the union and they took some pretty direct questions, a lot of them were pretty pointed and probably hurt when they impacted. Not a lot of answers, especially on the LOA.. why was sect 6 not improved on instead of renegotiating from the ground up? Why did the union use the "hard sell" approach on such a poor LOA? Why did DW take it on himself to push the over 60 and retro issue? Why bother to poll if they're not going to listen? Why didn't the negotiating committee use some of the in-house assets (guys living in Hong Kong) to get a better of picture how bad the LOA really is? The normal unanswered questions from other meetings. A lot of the Subic guys were very well researched and very knowledgeable on the in's and out's of living outside the US... seemed like a lot of knowledge that didn't get tapped by the negotiating committee.
The union guys took a lot of time answering the question and trying to fend off the flak attack... didn't work.. the SFS guys were ****ed.. nice for at least part of the leadership to face the music. DM and WR looked a lot like sacrificial lambs... lol
The Bloc Rep was very active and made a major difference in keeping the crowd focused and the ropes out of the trees... Then there was a great dinner and time to cool down...
I've got lot's of pictures of the events if anyone's interested... pm me.
