Default UPS pilot hiring 2006

I was talking to a UPS pilot about pilot hiring in '06, and he thought they were bumping up the numbers to about 500-550. He also said that number is contingent on other training facilities being used(i.e. Boeing), as the SDF TC is pretty much maxed out. He was quick to point out that the UPS training dept. would do ALL training. Anyone out there with more current info, and also, does the IPA have to sign off on outside training centers being used?

320 Driver,

It seems to be an accepted fact that UPS's training center can only handle about 300 or so new hires a year, anything more than that would require an outside facility...hope it happens, we just posted an upgrade bid of 45 Capts!!

I was surprised to see the big openings on the DC-8 and 727. Is UPS pulling some aircraft out of the desert?? This must be for future Menlo lift.

UPS to hire 500 this year? What a Joke. Or some wishful thinking. UPS just announced they will have one new hire class in Feb. Guess how many? 3!!!!!!!!! Why even have the class. The company is run by dip sh*ts.

I laughed, too, when I saw the hiring figure for February.

Yes, the company has already announced that they will take some dc8 and 727 aircraft out of storage for MENLO operations. The number they are reactivating isn't enough though. The company has disregarded our scope provisions of integration within one year of purchase. That year was up last December.

I would suspect that we will continue hiring throughout 2006. We are not as big an operation as FedEx, so 300 pilots would represent a 12-13% pilot group increase.

The number of pilots hitting 60 starts to accelerate reaching a peak in 2008-2010. This alone will generate a few hundred new hire positions.

I'm just a regular line guy, so none of this is official. Just relaying info I've heard directly from our CPilot. Not that he's in the loop either....
