FDX Export Calendar from VIPS to MS Exchange?
#11
O.k. I'll try an offer a suggestion to a Windoz user... Please note, I am not a normal user, so please forgive my ignorance. First off, does MS Exchange use the ICAL format? Can you "subscribe" to an external calendar? I know Microsoft's Vista Calendar program supports this, but I'm not sure about MS Exchange. I also don't use the Microsoft version of BidX, but if your calendar program allows you to subscribe to .ics files, I would suggest e-mailing the BidX guy, and asking if the "Export to iCal" function exists or could be made available to the Windows version as an "Export to an ICAL file." It should be a very easy addition, and he is usually very good at adding features to the program. Again, it might already be a feature. This would allow you to import your line directly into your calendar. (At least it would work in Vista's calendar.)
If you don't have/use/want BidX,or if MS Exchange is the same proprietary calendar format like Outlook uses, which does not use the standard ICAL format, I have but one other solution...
There is an electronic logbook program out there, "Airline Pilot's Daily Logbook" which is a Palm and Windows Mobile logbook program. This program has a great "Schedule importer" feature, in which, you select "FedEx" from the airline, and cut/paste your pairing, then "Import" the trip. The program then lets you export that trip into a .xml file for PocketPC, or as a .pdb file for Palm. You can then sync your Palm/PocketPC, then sync it again, and it comes up in your Outlook calendar.
Again, I'm not sure how MS Exchange handles calendar data, but you might play with the importer provided by APDL, and use the PocketPC option, and play with that .xml file, and who know, maybe MS Exchange can import that .xml file.
The importer link is:

Good luck!

Shameless plug attempting to provide an alternative solution --
No import/export capabilities, but the Monthly Info function of MagicWebFX downloads and stores on your personal computer a picture of your current calender, your future trips (w/svcs info), your pay summary and bank balances screens.

I'm still pretty new to BidX and I haven't used the customize feature. Three questions:
If I already dropped a trip directly from VIPs, can I still use customize to export to iCal? I keep getting an error, probably because I'm trying to drop a trip from the bidpack that's already been dropped on the site.
Where exactly is the export button (derrr)? Or does it only show up after you've completed editing the line?
Those of you who use BidX, do you normally drop from BidX or directly from VIPs?
Thanks -

As to the BidX Customize line display. Yes, it's all fancy in that if you drag your trip you want to drop and add trips in the little VIPS window at the bottom of that display, it will "talk" to VIPS for you, and submit the drop. If you did it this way, the trip should drop out of your "Customized line." If you added or dropped directly from VIPS, then don't use the window at the bottom again, as this will submit another VIPS request.
Unless you want to ask the FedEx mainframe a question, then I would stay away from the bottom windows, and just right click the trip in your custom line, and select "Remove trip 123," or right click on a day you added a trip, and select "Add trip 123," "Add Special Block" will let you add training, carryover, and whatever else you want. Once you customize your custom line, then just click the "Export to iCal" button, on the lower right side of your custom line display, right next to "Print Custom line" (Which also kicks as5!)

Please post when you work out the export process. I will subscribe to bidx when you get the export feature completed. I have experimented with some of the XML files that Bidx creates and Lost in Translation would accurately describe the data conversion I have accomplished so far.
Thanks for the heads up.

BTW, I'm not the creator of BidX, but he does occasionally tell me what he's working on for upgrades. I am a loyal user/salesman, though!

As best I can tell, the export option is only available to Apple users at this time.
I too just subscribed and after looking for the "export" to ical option, just isn't available. Would be great if it was there, since Google's calendar allows importing iCal files and i wanted to give that a shot. Would sure be easy to show CinCHaus when I'm on the road.
