Default No furloughs at UPS as a result of displacement?

Didn't really get a warm-fuzzy from the IPNN update stating that there would be no furloughs as a result of the displacement bid. Basically just said that no crewmembers had received a 90 day furlough notice. Was that hadn't received a furlough notice yet??? Would have rather seen a statement that said the displaced crews would be needed in other fleets... Or mayber I'm just reading too far into this.

Default Poor reasoning

I was thinking ... what if the 90 day notices go out on March 25 ?

Their reason for no furloughs was cloudy at best.

then watch the open time/JA ban start and they'll have to hire a 100 managers to make up for lost flying - just my two cents

Default furloughs

Guys...

Ups would have to be idiots (okay, bigger idiots than they already are!) to furlough. Not only would there be little to no open time or ja pickup but a lot of people would start using more of their sick time in response; I know I wouldn't feel quite as well coming to work in a furlough situation. I would think that they will carry extra bodies in the right seat of whatever fleet they feel will be growing in 08/09 and not put them in the fe positions for just a year.

I agree. If the company furloughs, the IPA call call for a legal open time ban. That could get ugly for UPS.

an example of UPS's mixed up mgt system. is it really a place where folks with a chip on their shoulder go to punish others? To test a man's character don't give him adversity..... give him power.

RB, I truly think you are reading to much into this. I don't see how the IPA leadership can say what will happen to displaced folks unless there are contractual issues at play.

The 90 day furlough letter can come at any time. We are always just 90 days from furloughing. If such threats were made I am sure the majority of line pilots would step up like in the past.

However, I like you, would have preferred a more convincing statement from the IPNN. But we didn't get it. I'm sure for those near the bottom this is all unnerving but it sure is a example of how fast things can change.

I agreee with Pilot7576 that UPS would have to be out of their small minds to furlough. What I'm curious about however is why the mention on IPNN. Is it just to soothe some fears expressed recently by junior pilots to the union, or is it in response to a trial balloon lofted by some bored manager either independently, or from higher ups like Barr or Karen Lee to instill yet more resentment about the geezers. Stilly Sprague has a great post on the B & G regarding the issue, and any nervous junior guy/gal should read it. Of one thing I am certain...unlike at USElessAir in '91 if they utter the F word virtually everybody (I hope including the greedier geezers) will step up and punish the company for yet another example of moronic management.

That would be the best explanation yet as to why a furlough would even be considered ...

We don't even know if it is. Just that clip from the IPNN that made things clear as mud. That was my point earlier ...

Like Airbum said, a furlough is only 90 days away ... for now it is mostly posturing from both sides.

Stilly's a cool dude.

Ok, I just read his post and he's making me feel guilty for calling the geezers geezers.
