Flying Tigers ?

Would that be considered flaimbait?
I heard that a lot of the tiger guys didn't even have pilot licenses when they were hired. But, most had recently flown on an airplane. Big ones. Jets, even.
Actually, most of the 97xxx guys are Seaboard dudes. Maybe that's what he meant...They were hired after that merger, so they could furlough some Tiger guys.
Fauxhunter could expound on this. He's a 97xxx guy.

I got here shortly after the merger (1990) and can tell you this: you knew within a minute of meeting the front-enders if they were purple or silver guys. As well, at least speaking for myself, I almost always found that the Tiger guys ran a more relaxed, enjoyable cockpit, whereas the FedEx guys seemed always more interested in letting you know who was in charge. In those first 5 or so years, I was rarely treated to a diet coke (or offered a beer) by a purple guy, which was the exact opposite of the silver guys, who seemed to love to go out with the crew. Just my observation, your mileage may vary.

Agreed, the exception being Capt Clepto who is a 96XXX. Maybe he'd buy you a beer with the $$ he stole from you? ..............Nah...he'd just keep it.

Is Captain Clepto still doing that? Hasn't someone put him out of our misery yet? :P
Last time I looked (which was several years ago) there were were well less that 300 premerger Tiger pilots left. Haven't bothered to check of late so i don't know to be honest what the number is now.
As for our alleged lack of longevity, we had a few guys who died young that really mess up the curve. There were/are quite a few that are still doing well. My father has been retired from Tiger's for 22 years now and he's got more than a few left in him. Duke Hedman was in his 80's when he died and he was a real tiger pilot (AVG) and at that it was a parking lot accident that led to his demise.
