If we as a group don't hold the line on age 60 being a normal retirement age benefits wise, this question will likely be a moot point.

From: Re-reading George Orwell's 'Animal Farm' and getting scared...
With the loss of seat position and pay, these guys just forced everyone else to HAVE to work to 65 if they want to have the same retirement available (your milage may vary)...

My comments stem from the ridiculous analogy made by SubicCobra wherein he likens being against flying past age 60 and retro to racism.
The "had their cake and ate it too" crowd started in December and will include those who fly past 60 for the next 5 or so years. Everyone else is just dealing with the fallout. My plan is still to go out at 60, but everyone who flies past 60 in the meantime makes it that much harder.
I tried to give SubicCobra a wake up call. The practice bid looks very ugly. I doubt anyone would dispute that. His cries of "ageism" are going to fall on deaf ears (because it's BS). Some of my buds had no strong feelings about age 60 and retro. Not anymore. They're pi****, and they aren't getting downgraded either. So I imagine those who are losing a seat feel 10 x stronger about it. Good times.

I said this before. As soon as the politicians voted for the civil rights act, I called my state senators and congressman. I was able to talk to two of the aides. Both said the same thing. The south still opposed the act. Since the White House was endorsing the act, the politicians voted it through. Thanks White House. I know desegregation would still happen regardless, but there wouldn't be as many white people affected. I wouldn't be as upset if the majority of whites wanted desegregation but the majority didn't. If Johnson runs against a donkey next time, the donkey has my vote.

If you are a captain right now (or soon to be back in the front seat), then you are a member of an elite group.
You get an extra five years of captain pay. The pilots that came before you didn't get them, and the pilots that are junior to you won't get them.
You might ought to sit back and count your blessings, instead of proclaiming yourself a member of a downtrodden minority.

OK, maybe not camaraderie, but being able to 'define themselves'? Maybe maintain their significance....?
I anticipate many will continue, regardless of what our 'normal' retirement age becomes (or hopefully stays at).

What's to prevent anyone from continuing to fly after 60 for the sheer joy and camaraderie?

then words can't describe just how sad/pathetic that truly is.

Yea, I remember when this whole thing raised it's ugly head. I can't count the near-60 guys who said, "There's no way I'm gonna wait 'til 65! I'm outta here at 60 if not earlier!" Ok, how many of them have actually left since the rule changed? Just like I predicted; hardly any. Age 60 doesn't mean anything anymore. Are we actually going to fight to keep our retirement based on 60 when nobody is taking advantage of it? I'll bet more than 90% of the people on this message board say they'll leave at 60 or before and when the time actually comes, I'll bet a minority actually do it.... just my opinion of course.
