AV8OR,
Yes we are union, TWU 545. If you want to sit with dispatch call sys ops at 359-5150 or dispatch sup at 359-5100 and they will get you in. I think it would be great to sit with us for a while. Then you could see things such as when one dispatcher simultaneously loses ETPs for 8 enroute NOPAC crossings while handling a mechanical in ANC, has 3 planes getting ready to divert from CRK due to fog that never showed up in LIDO, and an incoming satcom due to a busted OPS computer while CGN is calling for fuel loads on your 9 intra-Europe flights that leave in 2-3 hours. Or when your 24 flights coming into SDF all need a new alternate right now due to thunderstorms and ACARS quit working 15 minutes ago and nobody told you. But be prepared for deafening cricket chirping. PM me if they give you trouble getting in or have any other questions.

We had no problems observing the ‘sterile’ cockpit on that flight... As a matter of fact, it stayed 'sterile' most of the flight...
Personally, I think it was a cruel and unusual punishment (at least for the poor newhire) for the company to put those two on the same jumpseat...

Oh well, I'm going to excuse myself from this discussion...no animals were harmed during this thread.

Had two priority 3's the other day - both going to training. One was moving up from the FE seat to the front seat (ANC I think). The other just got displaced from the 75/76 to the DC8 FE seat - he was hoping for ANC but since he was still on probation he didn't have a choice. I think he was getting off probation a day or so after the vacancy/displacement bid closes...

The reason I ask there was another group who was in a similar situation not too long ago; they too were 'allowed' to bid however they were all placed wherever the company needed them…
I hope those guys/gals get to bid ANC if that's what they want…

Oddly enough I have not yet received and static when asking for extra fuel especially international, but other than HKG-ANC OR PVG-ANC we don't haul the glamor loads so that's likely why. A couple of weeks ago however ANC-ONT (LIDO flight planned at CI555-that's hecka fast to you DC-8 types) I started getting behind just south of SEA. We were at planned weight with a pretty favorable CG (unusual for the MD because they're scared of putting it on it's tail since UPS is too cheap to by nose tie downs like Fed Ex uses). So I ACARS Ft. Fumble (or Clown Town or Jerry's Kids or whatever you call them) and tell them I'm WAY over burn and may well be dropping into OAK or MHR for gas, whichever suits them better, but in the meantime I'm slowing down to see if I got any help. Oh boy...you'd think I hit on a guy's cousin/fiance at a Kentucky family reunion (wedding) suggesting a divert. Keeping it more cordial I stayed on ACARS instead of the SATCOM (always trying to save a buck) and informed them the only opinion I was asking for was their preference of OAK or MHR and that the decision was mine and my F/O's alone. Fortunately for them and our happy hour slowing down really helped and we got a nice direct so it all worked out. We landed only 5000 light but I did write up a vague suspicion of a possible fuel leak in respect of the next guys flying the airplane.
As far as how stupid they are, no doubt. But all other things held constant I'll do what I can to save gas out of common professional sense, and to do what I can to help save a junior guy's job along with enjoying my days off.
"Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those I had to kill because they ****ed me off."

So you "WAY" over burn, and now you decide to contact flight control?
Maybe you should have pulled the throttle back before getting South of Seattle?
From your lack of respect on this board you don't strike me as a Quiet Professional? Oh yeah, with the age 65 rule in effect you'll have that much longer to spread your hate and BS attitude to all of the newbies for that much longer.

Well it looks like you did your job, you slowed the airplane down and landed without incident. Did it actually turn out to be a fuel leak?

Well, that's great however are they allowing them to bid and will actually consider those requests or are they simply allowing them to bid so they 'might' look into their preferences?
