Let's see:
Company can't operate on 48 BLG

Need an LOA to go below 68

Its costing 12 Mil a year to buy up to min BLG.

Why would we ever vote yes to that?

Spending 1 Million a month sounds a lot like the cost of full filling the terms of a contract. Kind of like me going to work when I am scheduled to fly.

12 Million is probably about a tenth of what one of the VPs will get for a bonus this year.

Bottom line. They sound abide by the contract. We grin and bear it when the sodomizer kicks in (and told its all according to the contract), so should management. I vote no for this LOA. They have already told us they can't furlough by saying they can't run a company on min BLG. We are negotiating against ourselves.

How's that been working out for us?

Albie likes to call this negotiating in private. No need to upset the rubes.

I like the way you think.

Guys who would be flying all the Vol/Drft ,if it were offered, are the same guys that are currently building up their personal BLGs with make-up at straight time on days off. Which brings us back to the idea of limiting that with either a Max BLG or a Mandatory Min Days Off implementation. That is really the only way I see we can truly spread the pain evenly and limit the BLG reductions.
I'd like to say you're right about the Draft flying, but I've been called twice in 3 weeks for a draft trip in the Boeing. Before that, I've never been called...

Seems like they're having issues figuring out what to do with the 300 extra bodies we have on property.

What about a Max hour limit for the year? (at least while BLG's are at a low). That way a guy who likes to hit the slopes in the winter/spring can drop more days but keep his yearly salary up by working more in the summer. A guy who likes the pool and golf can drop more days in the summer and work up in the winter. Just a thought.

That was pretty good!

How about this when consdering the buy up stuff...

Unscrew the optimizer...give the crew force a break, we are overmanned, space the trips out...let the crew force recharge while the economy is slowing. Yeah there may be a smaller lines, but why not give us a break while they can. This working us to extremes with minimal turns and day night shifts is rediculous when we are overmanned, short staffed, I can understand it, but now...

Here is another question, how much will it cost the company to furlough? Not what we want to hear, but when you think about it, how hard did we fight for a pay raise and work rules. Are we not getting worked over with the optimizer and now a reduction in blg(since the schedule is squeezed so tight)? Do we just give in to every request of the company? Where exactly do we draw the line in the sand to figure out what the company is willing to NEGOTIATE for us. This whole give and take thing doesn't seem to be working, it seems(and I say seems), that the union and crew force is giving to the company without recieving anything.

I think there are a lot of issues here, and a lot of speculations going on. I think union strategies need to be just that, strategies that are done without being announced to the company so they can work around what we are doing...I may not get it, but I know the union is doing some things behind the scenes, but when/how are we gaining for what we are giving up.

I may just need to go to bed too...
