Biggs - I have to ask, what is your point with all your doomsday predictions? I mean you've scared enough people already, I for sure am very nervous because I too am very junior. Having said that, what is your point so I understand it better?

Most of us junior folks are already paying off credit cards and saving up money just in case (sounds like our government should be doing that too ).
Nothing new here, most of us started paying off credit cards as soon as we got off probationary pay. Many, including me, are still working on it.

I'm not asking you not to say what you think I'm simply trying to understand why?

Can WE do anything about what might happen? If so, please let us know and I for sure will be all over it.

This site is very popular amongst the Brown folks, in the last 48 hours alone I got 5 phone calls from my buddies who are pretty junior too and they're all panicking saying they 'heard' on APC we're about to furlough - and maybe we are and if so - what can WE do about it?

Hope you don't take any offense to my question, I'm simply perplexed...

True, but as you know it doesn't take much for junior guys/gals to freak out over a rumor...

Ya! I'm getting anxiety just reading this thread so off to bed I go!

The point is only a small group of us believe its possible. Everyone else at UPS is telling us young guys it wont, can't, never will happen. Know thats bad for those guys that are here in the airlines for the first time. The point is the union will not answer direct question relating how we stand of manning and you know were the company stands. I know of second year folks that think things are fine since we are making, still, 800 plus mill a quarter. Thus are not taking steps they should based on false sense of hope they are getting from a very quit union. The reason BM sent out the emial was because I wrote him and asked some very pointed questions and let him know people are worried. He is a busy man and I bet he had very little heads up people were worried since almost everyone in the head office is senior enough not to be even remotely touched by a 300 guy furlough. So, I'm not a company or union hater, but a believer in good communication and letting people know the the full range of outcomes could be. If you are like me on airline number 5, then we can figure it out and plan. We know how to read between the lines and actully pay attention to things that are happening. Day one they came into class and said welcome to the last job you will ever have. Now that's a bad thing to instill day one in someones mind. This is what upsets me, no real info, no real perspective, no answers to questions. Yes they may not know, but they have more info then any of us and can make a educated guess. This is not about, "darn I will loose my capt seat and have to be a fo, so I guess I will put off buying my big boat", but "crap I wish I had some heads up so I could have developed a b plan and I hope I can pay my bills". See my point. A good leader unlike leadpipes would have had a much better response. Now the union knew 1 day after he made his remarks and didn't bother to see what concerns it would bring up and should have looked closer at what waves it could produce. Also, the union has had good communication about our buying the building, age 60 implementation, etc, but nothing about this of any substance. I know persons have been calling the union for at least 6 months voicing their concerns, but they have not put this on the priortiy list. The point is a chicken little is sometimes needed to make people look up.

Unfortunately, no one can predict the future.

The only thing you can do, is hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Nothing that anyone will tell you, will change what is going (or not going) to happen.

Have a beer and try not to worry! (NOT at F-Street, though)

Biggs 09-30-2008 08:36 PM

We should all go to F street so we can get beat up and get on short term disibilty and thus get paid while on furlough. Even the old geezers haven't thought of that

Well, if they remembered to bring their tri-focals, then the cat is out of the bag.

Or just use the word "geezers" a lot while in the crew lounge, probably those guys could beat us up, get fired and offset some furloughs. Just a thought.

If the deal falls through, I'm sorry if you get bumped down to FO, but I'd like to keep my 20 year career right here if it's all the same to you. ;) I'm sure the 600 pilots at ABX and the other 8,000 people that stand to lose their jobs most likely feel the way I do about it as well.

I truly apologize, and I know I sounded harsh, but the fact is this is a discussion between a bunch of UPS pilots, and we are discussing that it would probably be a good thing for us to land a ten year, billion dollar/year new account. And yes, I honestly don't feel too bad knowing that our company got this account over your company. Sorry, but that is the truth and I am sure you feel the same way.

If I could have my way, I would like to see UPS hire each and every one of you at ABX (not Astar after they picketed UPS) and give you guys a job here at UPS.

This industry is brutal, and I truly feel bad for anyone furloughed.
