Hey, that's just business. If UPS needs to downsize their fleet a bit to match the business market, that just makes good business sense.
That's reality also. And I said something different? It is business and don't ever forget that. |

While I'm sure that you have used the F word towards management at UPS, has mgt used the F word in any official correspondence towards the line pilots?

FWIW, it hasn't been ruled out. From a union email:

I was aware of that one (803) before it hit the schedule. 701 in ROW will go in for a C-check before too long also. About a half-dozen others have been put on hold.
Quite a few are scheduled to go to GSO this month and early November (2 have already gone there), but not for C-checks, nor from ROW. They are tails that we are currently using going in for some type of MX with something to do with clearing up paperwork (not just the 3 that were in storage on the SDF ramp for so long). Last week I counted 25 different DC8 tails that passed through the SDF, PHL, or RFD sorts. I'm keeping a watch for the 3 SDF "storage" aircraft to fly. They are 813, 819, and 867. I think 813 is scheduled to go to GSO later in October. |

As president, if he sais furlough, then they do it, and if the house comes down, IE can't fly the lines, he blames the union, gets a bonus and we still hit the street. When has the company ever listened to the union. My take after 18 months here is that the mangers that have been hired don't have the education or background to figure it out. They are a bunch of guys off acitive duty that didn't have what it took to be big shots, so they came here. Zero personality, leadership and lack any idea how the business works or the industry and thus don't know what is really going on. So asking your ACP is a waste of time. Better just ask man power planning, look at open time, how much reserves are flying, how many trips are being CX due to lack of load, amount of load your carrying every night verses a year ago, and what the union sais and you will find the truth somewere in the middle. Never believe either side they have agendas for saying what they do. Say we are fat and guys will be off on military leave taking those 3 to 5 year active duty/AGR jobs shooting for that active duty retirement and then all of a suden were are short and you can't get those guys back. Say we are thin, then demand we hire and when they don't, say they are stupid, IE make their credibility suffer. No one, I repeat No one, on either side will tell you were we really stand of manning, their is to much oppurtunity to look stupid or be able to show up the other side and gain some credibility. Your guess is as good as anyones. Also, I laugh at asking the old guys. Now there is a bunch of guys that are so out of touch with what is really going on and why should they care. They will never be furloughed and base everything on how things have been for the last 20 years. Well news for those guys and anyone who listens to them, things change, nothing ever stays the same. So your better off going to local palm reader to get good info on what might happen. Learn form the smart old guys, save your money, pay off your junk, keep your wife, put her to work, and always have a B plan ready to go. If this happens it will be a race for what ever jobs are left after the industry has been furloghing for a year. Well I feel better know. But wait, just to keep the pop boiling, if DHL happens we should be fine, but with the slowdown of the economy I bet no hiring will be done.
