Holy convoluted scheduling logic Batman!

I will never do MUV or MUS. It's not worth the stupidity that could result. Only accepted fare policy logic looks dumber.

Making sure I got all this correct during the 36 hr window.....I have a regular trip plus a carryover trip into dec that is currently being knocked out with vac. There is one more trip that gets back less than 48 hrs before an affected vac trp--I can't slide into that trip and knock out all 3 but will the 48 hr buffer knock it out? And if it does will I go over my alloted vac allowance and start next year with a bit less than normal? Or will the trip be dropped and put into make up? My goal is to go into a deficit for next year--hoping for a 107 hr vacation bomb that slips into 2 months.
Thanks, I know I'm a rookie and a total novice with the contract.

First of all, if you have a regular line (not secondary or reserve,) there is no 48 hr buffer for vacation. If you hit the 48 hr buffer selection in "Bid Period Processing," it will tell you that it doesn't apply to you. There is an international buffer, but that applies with or without vacation. If you want to keep the 3rd trip (1st trip, calender-wise,)and it is international, you would have to slide the beginning of your vacation more than 48 away from the end of the trip. Second, no need to slide your vacation if you want to get rid of that trip. You can expand your vacation to conflict with trips up to and 6 hours over your remaining vacation hours. If you go over your remaining hours, those hours will go in a MUV bank, not your regular makeup bank.

Not sure what you mean about a vacation bomb next year.

OK...what if someone is eligible for 36 hrs of vacation buy back and after their last vacation they have 26 hrs in their vacation bank. They are also eligible for 6 hrs of vacation Make-up (...due to being over the previous year).

If they pick-up a 6 hr trip with MUV before the end of the year, won't their vacation bank increase to 32 hrs...and thus, they will get actual $$ for this trip via vacation buy back? (i.e. 32 hrs vs 26 hrs)

almost.....(I think? I've been asking some of the same questions recently)

expansion has nothing to do with the number of hours in your vacation bank balance.

expansion has to do with # of DAYS in your current vacation period x 6CH plus up to 6CH over that.

so, if you have 8 days in the current vacation period = 48CH (8 x 6CH) plus up to 6CH over = 54CH limit for expansion (no matter how many hours you have remaining in your bank)

sliding can knock out unlimited CH.

example - say your line has a 10CH trip at the end of the month right in the middle of the 8 day vacation period, and a 70CH trip way at the beginning of the month (and that's your entire line for the month)

also, you have 200CH in your vacation bank still.

the 10CH trip will drop, but you cannot EXPAND to take out the 70CH trip as this would be a total of 80CH, and EXPANSION is limited to 54CH (for the 8 days) - even though you have 200CH to burn in the bank. (it's kinda like how are deviation banks are going these days)

example #2 - say your line has a 40CH trip towards the end of the month right over the top of the 8 days vacation, and then a 10CH trip way at the beginning of the month, and another 30CH trip way at the end of the month.

but all you have this time remaining in your bank is 0:01 CH (1 minute)

the 40CH trip will drop, then you can EXPAND all the way back to the beginning of the month and knock out the 10CH trip too - even though you couldn't reach it with a SLIDE (total of 50CH now with the two trips) since you haven't/won't exceed the 54CH expansion limit - you will go "in the hole" 49:59 CH and have to fly the 30CH trip at the end of the month.

clear as mud?

expansion limit is the DAYS value @ 6CH/day (plus up to 6CH extra) - that is any maneuvering that includes an expansion

slide is unlimited by itself.

(I think that's right?? any veterans are welcome to shoot all that down and set me straight - I'm still a rookie)

wow, I'm even more of a novice than I realized. My grand plan to knock out 3 trips including a carryover were foiled due to the limit on expansion. I thought trips got dropped that bumped into the buffer--guess I learn the hard way again...
thanks for the rplies

Good catch. By this time of year, I never have as many hours remaining as days of vacation, so I was thinking of using all the remaining hours + 6.
