Hey... don't get your brown knickers in a bind. I am not suggesting its the UPS pilot's fault that guys are on the street. But explain Challenge Air Cargo. They weren't contractors... they were an airline that UPS purchased for the South American routes. I guess there is comaradary amongst pilots until they have to go to bat for the one's put on the street ala CAC. But what the heck.

I was referring to the 1250 hub workers that got "browned", not the contractors.

Default challenge air

Captjns...

What could the IPA do to help the challenge air pilots? UPS wanted the route authority to SA. Challenge had no aircraft of their own and UPS felt it didn't need additional pilots. They have historically been behind the hiring curve and this time was no different.

Are you suggesting that the IPA should have demanded that the CAC pilots be hired as a part of the deal even though there were no airplanes to put them in? The IPA can look out after mergers but when all they buy is route authority, there is nothing that the union can do to bring on pilots that the company feels it doesn't need in the first place.

You can place blame where you want....but the IPA had no standing in the CAC purchase. I felt bad for the CAC guys as well, but there was nothing that we could do about it.

That's one of the things I thought Unions, associations, and common bonds were all about... help each other out in time of ill.

You answered your own question. UPS bought the route authority and customer base of CAC. That's it.

Your are partly correct. We help each other out in our OWN union. I could give a damm about what goes on in other pilot groups or their own union.

Thats a real real short sighted statement Browntail.

So you don't give a Damn about what happens here at FedEx, Astar or Polar, Airborne....etc?

I seem to remember your bashing FedEx ALPA's negotiating committee for not asking enough in their openers.........saying "they screwed IPA"

But I lest I digress, because you don't give a dam what goes on here or other pilot groups..............Real Short sighted.

Though I'm sure you expect support of the other unions if IPA goes on strike.

Default unions

RedeyeAV8or...

You are correct...we are all in this together. What your mec can negotiate as well as abx and the rest have a direct bearing on our success, and the other way around. While the pattern bargaining in the pax side has reversed the nice pay and benefits that they gained, the freight side has seen growth and we can expect (rightfully) to share in the largess.

If fdx alpa was on strike, I would not expect to be carrying fdx cans. If IPA goes on strike, I would expect the same. However with CAC, there was nothing the IPA could do to help the pilots. UPS bought route authority only. If airplanes came with the deal, we would have an argument to grow our ranks with CAC pilots. That wasn't the case.

Some people take satisfaction in the misfortune of others. I know better...it's better to be lucky sometimes than good; and but for the grace of God....that it could have been me furloughed, bankrupted, or downsized.
