[quote=FR8K9;511691]Also, doesn't it seem like the world's biggest management blunder to head up to the junior base, and announce furloughs IN THE MIDDLE OF PEAK! quote]

Not saying that. That would be suicide.

What other reason could it possibly be to cause all that management personnel to travel to ANC?

It just doesn't make sense to me. I hope they announce something huge and productive! Bad news at a time like this would not be a good idea for the troops!

they are on their way to China for the hub opening.
The sky is not falling. They are not up to anything. Go, eat their food and drink their booze. Keep your ears open and your mouth shut.

ANC Chief Pilot Communication Meeting for 12/5

UPDATE

The Anchorage Chief Pilot Communication Meeting scheduled for Dec. 5 at the Marriot's Valdez room, located on the second floor of the hotel, is open to all UPS pilots. This event is sponsored solely by the company and is not a joint effort with the Independent Pilots Association, as the Anchorage Chief Pilot's Office mistakenly announced earlier. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

The meeting will begin with a continental breakfast followed by a question and answer meeting on the state of the airline from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
Special guests will include: UPS Airline and International Operations Manager Bob Lekites; Air Group Operations Manager Mitch Nichols; Flight District Manager Captain Rick Barr; Aircraft Maintenance & Engineering District Manager Warren Johnson; Air Group Finance & Accounting District Manager Mark Mccloud; Air Group HR District Manager Tom Volta; and Air Group Plant Engineering Manager Jon Brugman.
The dress will be casual attire.
RSVP's are appreciated but not required. For more information or to RSVP email [email protected] or call 907-249-6250.

Speculation: We have or will aquire 49% of Polar as part of the DHL deal and will commence operation of their 747-400s as part of an expansion of the ANC operation.

Nomex on!

Default Planting Seeds

If I were a betting man, I would bet that Leadpipes, et al will start off with some dry financial stuff. They'll explain how business is down, DHL didn't pan out blah, blah. There will be the usual bland thanks for all we do for productivity, followed by a call for increased "productivity" from everyone if we're to survive this recession. Someone in the audience will innocently ask, "What are we expected to do to help" (if one of us doesn't ask, a management plant will). Leadpipes will segue into possible scenarios, mid-term agreement with the Union, less "sick leave abuse" etc. Underneath the whole discussion will be a thinly veiled threat that if we don't help out more, the company may have to furlough. Could I be wrong? Sure, just ask my wife! I've seen this kind of behavior from UPS and Lekites before, aimed at the most junior members. He did it to my class in basic indoc, he has done in Capt. Leadership school. (not real successful). The overarching point for us to glean from anything this guy says is that he's been told to say it by Atlanta in hopes of spreading disunity amongst the rank and file. Try not to laugh if you must go, but please report everything you hear to the EB. I hope they will send a couple of reps.

Please don't tell me to keep my mouth shut. If you are who you say you are, then your job is safe. My job is not safe. I really don't want to go through another furlough. Not saying that is what is about to happen, just getting nervous.

I knew nothing about the China hub opening and if that's why their traveling to ANC that makes me feel better. Thanks for the info.

Peace!

Please ask some good questions. Perhaps we can get some hints as to the confidential discussions between UPS and IPA.

The IPA Executive Board has attended several briefings with the Company under strict confidential guidelines.
“While we can’t discus all the details of those meetings, we can assure you that there was no indication of a furlough,” said the EB.
“However, in this current economic climate, we can understand individual pilots are concerned and may want to pose their questions directly to the Company. We don’t expect the answers received will be different then those previously communicated to your Association representatives.”
