Let's hope you and the chief pilot are right and the article is wrong. It's bad enough news at Christmas if it's only one MD-11 and a 747.

The Chief Pilot did say that the ATW article is incorrect and it is indeed only 1 MD-11 and 747.

Default World Pilot Hirees

Just wondering what the background is of most guys that fly for World? Military or Civilian? Also how many pilots is World hiring recently. I'm doing my grad research on the airline and having trouble finding a lot of info. Also curious for my post military carreer options. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

Overall a pretty even mix of military and civilian. The latest hiring naturally has been civilian from Gemini and ATA but many of those pilots have military background. So to make it clear as mud, it is a good mix of both.

Default Training

Thanks for the info WorldGuy, also what kind of training do you go through as far as CRM and simulators. Are you responsible for your own type ratings prior to hire.

Type rating prior to hire? No, we're not Southwest. World pays to get you a type rating (if going to the MD-11 or B747). That's why there is a training contract.

World's training is simular to that at other FAR 121 carriers. A week of basic indoc and then off to aircraft specific training. DC-10 is about two weeks of ground school, then about 10 days of simulator. The MD-11 is about two weeks of FTD and then two weeks of sim.

I saw your 74 in HKG and thats one very nice paint scheme. Congrats! Enjoy your new ride. Is it a purpose built, or a convert?

World doesn't charge you money to go to work for them ( as in paying for your type rating) but they do insist you stay long enough to justify spending the money on you.
