I don't know what he makes or any of the others. I was just trying to make a point. Remember he was given a management job after he turned 60. And he also stated that us pilots did not have "special skills" to get a decent ex-pat package for the FDA's.

Paul (pablo) is not a friend of mine but I know him and like him. I respect him on several levels. ( I state this so you may judge the credibility of my remarks.). He is intelligent. He is professional. He is honest and friendly.

Each of these threads take on an ethic of their own, but consider all of the complaints with MEC members throughout these pages. Paul apparently reads these pages and posted. You have his ear and honest answer. Compare that to your other complaints.

Paul is not a union rep who went into mgt like is often complained about, but a manager who got I involved in the union. I believe Paul helped negotiate for the company on the training section. He has experience.

Paul is probably the guy all of you would want in the training dept of the aircraft you were on.

The thought if the few on here is that Paul has damaged the ability of the union to get the pay we want because he bid the aircraft. Well, I don't like the bait and switch from the 380 either, but I don't buy that particular argument. The actual problem is with a negotiating team that did not dot the I's and cross the T's. Just because BC is no longer NC chairman doesn't mean we need to find anyone new to blame. Face it, we voted in a contract that was specific about the companies' needs for the 757 but didn't watch ours on the ULR language. There does appear to be some leverage with regards to the Ulr rules, as indicated by JG and there may be some money there. ( I wonder if you all think that if in retrospect Paul's verbal committment to KW has hurt that negotiation)

Paul didn't screw anyone. What percent of the crewforce
Bid the aircraft? It wasn't just the 250 on the bid. What about some of the other folks on there? Didn't SM bid it? I would guess that we have to believe that he is no longer someone who has our backs.

I have hammered on DW as much as anyone here. I think multiple poor choices gets you the door. But asking a block rep to quit and treating him as a traitor because he bid an aircraft in accordance with the contract is pretty heavy handed. We want good guys as reps. If we keep cutting their heads off, we won't get any.

He agreed to bid it in May. He had no idea we wouldn't have a rate by now. He's sticking to his word. No problem, in my opinion.

I have a much bigger problem with the reps who were around LAST winter. At least Pablo hasn't run from the sound of the guns yet.

There is no debating in my mind that Pablo is a good guy, awesome instructor and an asset to the union as well as the 777 initial cadre.

Paul ran a campaign for union rep and everyone had the chance to ask him his feelings on bidding the 777 with no pay rate. Did anyone? I think if Pablo knew this would be a problem he would have told everyone in one of his campaign letters of his obligation to KW and his intentions. That would have helped ease a lot of the concerns I have read on this thread.

The other way he could have handled it was to take a conditional offer from KW that he would not bid or work on this project unless the company and the union had reached an agreement on pay. I guess for reasons stated in his reply he saw no need for that.

The bottom line is that Pablo is one of the "good guys" who made a decision that he explained here. Though not all agree with his decision, I would encourage the public attacks on here to stop and take it up with your MEC rep or Pablo himself via another more private form of communication. Even the ALPA boards would be better than this.

In the life of union work, we depend a LOT on volunteers. We have 4,600+ crew members. SIX stepped up to be interviewed for the negotiating committee chairmanship. When the MEC Chairmanship is up for grabs, I'll bet we'll be lucky to see a dozen run for that position. Our LEC leadership is also very bleak when it comes to nominees. Pablo stepped up to get gunned as an LEC Rep!!!

Now - let's put this spin on it. WE have an honest guy - an LEC rep - and a crew member respected by the Company on the B-777. Do you think that when the ULR flights start up, it might just be worth OUR collective while to have a professional like him on the aircraft? Pablo knows the FARs, the FOM, the CFM(s) on the aircraft he's operated. He's been, and is now an FAA designee. When we start getting jammed with domestic, international, FLAG, Supplemental, and a Duty Officer's interpretation from an air conditioned office when we're half way across China, I'd like an expert on my side. Pablo's THAT GUY!

So - spin it how you want.
