What part of the contract are you looking at? Junior FO's. Do you see how senior some of these FE's are?

Same applies to the over 65 FE's.

I almost think the company is going to get rid of all the -8's just to MAKE the over 65 crowd RETIRE.
I don't have a contract section to quote but my reasoning was that after Dec 13th, 2007 all pilots under the age of 65 are pilots even though they might be on the FE panel. They're there 'for now' because in effect they're "seat locked" since there are no openings for them (at least in the lower 48)... So for now they're just waiting for an opening...

I am not saying I agree with that and I might be totally wrong but I don't see how the company could possibly lay off guys/gals between 60-65 when there are pilots junior to them on property...

I hope I am wrong though (sorry Roberto )...

Edit:
I just read Roberto's post and I agree... If all DC8s got parked, all over 65 guys would be forced into retirement (or laid off) as furlough does not apply to them (they could never be 'recalled' from a furlough).

Under 65 guys though would be displaced into other aircraft and us, junior guys would be furloughed instead...

I don't have the info in front of me, so does anyone know how many over 65 or PFE's we have on the seniority list?

If the company didn't offer enough vacancies to accomodate all the positions, then after the displacement musical chairs was complete, the junior guys would drop off into furlough. Over 65's would not have an airplane, and would have to retire.
Why would they have to retire? They could take the layoff against the company pulling airplanes back out.

I've got 37 FE's who are over 65 or turn 65 this year (including 5 PFE's), and another 5 PFE's under 65. There are a few younger FE's who are senior enough to upgrade but have not.

No problem. I wish all the guys senior to me would leave also...

An interesting thought, but I'm assuming if the company gets rid of the DC8, they won't be coming back.

The DC-8's go to the desert, if they are still owned by the company they could be pulled back out. They have done it before, see DHL contract.
