UPS Earnings Tomorrow-ABX Deal Dead
This is my prediction. The Cost and Headache is too great to move 100K packages. And, why else would it take this long?
So now the question is, who gets the Lift? ASTAR or ABX? DHL says they need only 20 to 30 aircraft. I guess ABX, since they have the Widebody 767.

If that's how it all pans out I guess they're not all that stupid.
Add to that, The One will likely have them stay in the Lincoln bedroom out of gratitude.

I agree. This agreement is R.I.P----
It's taken WAY too long for an agreement on somthing so small, in terms of packages moved.
Hopefully it will help either the Astar or ABX guys.

FWIW I said very early on, that the Deutsche Dirtbags aren't as stupid as some suggested, and that they saw this economic trainwreck coming with the idea of ultimately getting Astar and/or ABX on the cheap, with the tidy little bow of ultimately appearing as "heros" by saving ILM and showing how they're actually really nice guys and the added bonus of having a "grateful" but cheap workforce.

For what it is worth, DHL uses ILN (Wilmington, Ohio) not ILM (Wilmington, NC). As far as the Astar or ABX guys being grateful...well lets just say that would be a stretch. They pretty much destroyed my 17 year career. If they had done this to your career would you be grateful to take a massive paycut for a job with absolutely no security?

Who do you work for? And who destroyed your career?

FWIW, on the Astar side, we aren't in the mood to give any concessions.

UPS management at the GOC (maybe everywhere, ain't fersure) was notified today their 401k match & raises are frozen UFN, and their discounted stock purchase of -10% is now -5% . Some other non-union types also had their 401k match frozen as well. About an hour after this happened they all got the big "thank you" email from BL for reporting to work, as ordered, during a statewide emergency declared by the gov. Apparently there are to be more announcements tomorrow.
Luckily our votes for our industry leading T/A are counted in 3 days.

I can relate, I had my "career" "destroyed" (temporarily-8 years on furlough before recall) before you were even hired there and after several years of crappier jobs than yours moved on. At the end of the day I'd rater be lucky than good.
So if you had to choose between concessions and a cubicle monkey job what is your bottom line to go back? Instead of taking a ground job I commuted to Saipan and Dayton for a year at a real fleabag before "moving up" to Kalitta, so as I can say, I can relate.

Also, as they already own 49% of Astar (which they bought for an ungodly sum of money in a prearranged deal with Dasburg) they did not get this airline "on the cheap", nor can they buy any more of it. Furthermore, it is highly unlikely that they will pay the cost of running Wilmington (ILN) only to run 8% of the sort they did in the last few years. It'll be either UPS at SDF or some other government run airport like CVG where they already own a $300+ million sort building with state of the art tilt tray sort systems in place.

I'll have to disagree on this one, SSB. The Germans that run THIS show ARE that stupid. They have unwittingly walked backwards into the quagmire they now find themselves in and their solution to massive U. S. financial losses is to commit stateside suicide rather than a rational downsizing and maximizing revenue generation (which they have NOT concentrated on).
