Default FDX - Campaign Email from WR

Just read his email and have a few comments. Most of it seems to be just boilerplate about what in theory he believes the qualities the next MEC officers must have. Okay, fine, but I can figure that out myself.

I want to know where he stands on past MEC decisions and actions, and what he intends to do if he is elected. I don't get any sense of what he thinks on specific issues, only that he acknowledges what everyone else already believes. Since he was part of the last administration who failed us, there's no distancing that I want to see in order to be comfortable with him in any officer position. My conclusion is to quote someone else I read here earlier: no incumbents.

For anyone else who might be tempted to send the membership emails encouraging us to tell our reps who to vote for, I offer this one piece of advice: tell us what you intend to do about the issues at hand. Just feeding us traditional BS that uses many words but communicates nothing about yourself is not endearing us (well, me at least) to you.

Take a shack lead! Everyone needs to give some top cover for their block rep to show his respective cajones. The block rep needs to walk into the MEC vote with an overwhelming number of e-mails stating his constituents opinion on the vote. Do it...now!

This will be like hitting in slow pitch softball...

"If in the future the decision is made to sacrifice one group at the expense of another, then I would argue that we will no longer be able to function effectively as an Association and might as well just succumb to the greed of the corporation and the attendant degradation of our collective quality of life."

I know that most out there don't really care, but the current leadership threw the instructor group under the bus on the last contract.

"How do we continue to protect the quality of life for all of our members in the long term? The next MEC Officers must continue to exhibit the same leadership qualities that we have displayed in the past. Integrity, honesty, hard work, leadership by example, and sacrifice are paramount."

The same qualities that ignored the will of the membership because they knew better on Age 60. The same leadership that sold a POS LOA and told us it was the best we could get. That was until it was improved... His last sentence would seem to imply that he is the only one who demonstrates those qualities.

"Without integrity, how can our members trust anything that we have to offer?"

He's making a case not to vote for him.

"Leading our members from the front is what each and every MEC member, officer, and committee chairman accepts as his or her responsibility when they put their name in for those positions."

Wow, that took real stones to write that! How about the 'shared sacrifice' we were promised as part of 'leading from the front'? This is from his message line on 9Jan09:

"With that in mind, and in the advance of the company’s eventual notification to the Association of their intent to exercise 4.A.2.b., I notified the company on January 2nd, 2009, that the full time officers at the Association would voluntarily take a roughly 8% pay cut until further notice. I did this before the bidpacks were constructed and before the company notified our PSIT of their BLG targets for the various bidpacks. As I told the membership almost a year ago, a reduction in MEC Officer pay would be one of several things that needed to occur should the company lower the MBPG below contractual minimums."

I thought at the time this was strangely ambiguous. Since this came out, I've heard the 'roughly 8% pay cut' was realized by cutting the housing stipend rather than a reduction in their 98 CHs/month. This stipend ($1800/month) is only payed to MEC Officers who commute, so anyone living in Mempho (WR) would not be impacted. Another rumor was they temporarily gave up their overrides ($1500/$1350/$1250 respectively). Could be BS rumors, but his 'honest, forthright' email was specifically vague.

Regardless of which rumor is true, compare your March pay with his 98 CH 'Leading from the Front' paycheck...

"For our Association to succeed against an opportunistic and aggressive anti-union corporation, sacrifice of some kind is a requirement for our union volunteers."

I personally want to thank him from the bottom of my paycheck for his 'roughly 8%' sacrifice. A truly noble gesture...

"My experience as an MEC Representative, the SPC Chairman, and now the Secretary/Treasurer, has afforded me a well rounded level of experience. This level of experience will hopefully allow me, along with my continually demonstrated integrity, honesty, leadership, and sacrifice, to effectively continue to represent the course that the MEC will set over the next two years that will lead us into Contract 2010 in uncertain times."

I've had personal experience with his honesty, integrity and leadership and I can honestly say I'd rather be locked in a gunney sack with a wet PO'ed badger than experience any more of his honesty and integrity. For those of you lacking this exhilarating experience, I guess you'll just have to look back over the last couple of years and see if you were treated with honesty, integrity and the kind of leadership that's worth 98 CHs each month.

Fraternally,

Mike

Top cover?,,come on Aeris, you are alot smarter than that. This (MEC)crew deserves NO CAP, period. When leadership fails, time to get rid of them, problem is that its all recycled trash. Good for global warming, bad for FDX ALPA membership.

I got writer's cramps and had to stop. Plus, I actually had to read and re-read his emails which entailed several quick trips to the head. Thanks for the support.
