If FDX is forced to fall under the NLRA, would ALPA be forced to say "bye, bye" to the agency shop?

If ALPA endorses this kind of position through the crime ridden AFL-CIO, then I will dump my membership in ALPA. It's bad enough to see ALPA national giving money to the left-wing socialist DEMS, but it is beyond pale to watch them endorse organized crime!

I'm with Fred on this one!!!!!!
I agree that there is corruption on the national levels of unions. However, the power is in the locals. Also, I'd rather national give money to the labor friendly party than to the right wing laissez faire capitalist repubs.

This country needs sympathy strikes or more solidarity in organized labor and whether you think so or not, you would benefit.

As for FDX attempting to bully congress, I say they're bluffing. Even if they're not, it doesn't make a difference where they get their planes as Boeings and Airbus' are built around the globe anyway.

Sure you would. You're the same guy who said ,"Socialism is required for a country to prosper". But what you really mean is, "a labor UNION friendly party", right? BTW, since you post on so many boards, on so many topics, with such a willingness to share your accumulated intellect, how did you ever find the time to become so dog gone brilliant?

Haven't you been trying to find reasons/ways to dump ALPA for some time now?

Yes I am aware that the first 15 are not affected by this order. But don't you think that Fred negotiated slots for the remaining 30 rather than getting the final 30 off the line?

Bottom line is Fred knows there's not too much demand for direct service between China and the mainland USA, hence there's no need for 45 777s. He's already deferred them once, so why not stir up a political fight rather than cancel the remaining airframes outright? Why is it that UPS can maintain steady profitability with a unionized workforce of 240,000 out of 450,000 but Fred is scared of unions?

UPS is bigger and makes more money than FedEx. FedEx is also much more likely to furlough this year.

You won't be happy till you have it all.

Are you saying that because FedEx was formed as an airline (under the RLA) that no matter what the corporation morphs into it should ALWAYS remain under its origin RLA?
Just in case you don't understand our structure. The Express unit is completely separate from Ground, LTL, Freight etc.. We don't carry their stuff on planes and they don't deliver our stuff on their trucks. The purple and orange trucks are the ones he is trying to keep the Teamsters from because they are part of the airline and mutually exclusive from the other units. We have different sort facilities and entirely different hubs. I think he is justified trying to keep them away from the airline. However, probably can't make that arguement with Ground, Freight etc..

I've always envied the way one guy delivered all the stuff at UPS and wondered why we didn't follow suit. Now I am starting to understand. Method to the madness.

Good points...there could be an argument against union representation there, but i guess it comes down to what the affected employees want.

Right, and the RLA doesn't prevent unions. And if the employees, in the same class and craft, throughout the US want to be in a union, they can. I've got no problem with FedEx employees unionizing if that is what the majority want to do. I just don't want to see something on the order of Air France where 3 different unions represent the pilots. We really don't need Teamsters in EWR, I.A.M. in DTW, an in-house union in IND, none in PHX.....you get the picture.
