Default Yangtze River Express and UPS

The IPNN today announced that Yangtze River Express will begin 5X weekly service from Shanghi to DFW. Don't we (or didn't we) operate a hub at DFW? I know international cargo volumes have fallen quite a bit, but you can't tell me that we can't find enough origin-destination freight from the Pac Rim to DFW, let alone enough freight to sort and ship through DFW?

Is our marketing department asleep at the wheel?

Its probably why they are hiring.....

I bet they will even have UPS cans on them...

What I find funny is that pilots don't realize that UPS overnight stuff can also be in cans that are not marked ups. This is disappointing news to say the least for IPA pilots.

UPS doesn't care about cargo or freight. We gave up half the Miami network because apparently we don't want that stuff. Not enough revenue compared to the next day letters. UPS doesn't care about market share regarding the other stuff.

But LAN sure does... so much so that they are now flying 777Fs. They are only the second S. American carrier to fly the 777, pax or cargo version - and its in direct competition with us for the flowers, fish, etc. All while our little 757 barely makes it off the ground in Guayaquil due to load restrictions.

Probably the same situation with Yangtze starting US service. Knowing the habbits of their competition, why wouldn't they? Good job UPS

I doubt very much YRE will end up flying 5X to DFW. We (Great Wall) are supposed to be doing all sorts of US flying, but in reality are down to a single flight some weeks. The numbers to the US just don't seam to be there yet. Lot's of wishful thinking, but still too much capacity for what is currently out there. Long and short, I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

As far as YRE hiring, I've spoken to a number of pilot's who are supposed to be going there, but the job's aren't materializing; but, that's just the perspective from my little world. Any comments from pilots who are definitely going?

I hope that those guys that got one are enjoying their "bone us". With the new contract UPS is allowed to use Supply Solutions to set these sort of things up. Not saying that this is the case here, but from now on, when you read these sort of things don't get upset, just give it the old IPA shoulder shrug and say "oh well".

Uh, the "new contract" placed further restrictions on this type of thing whereas the old contract contained no restrictions on Supply Chain Solutions.

UH, in the old contract we claimed all of that flying, hence the tumolt over the BNA Dell flying.

old union worker term, just like now, our bargaining unit "claims" all domestic flying. You don't know if you "own" it until it is tested. We'll never know on the SCS if we were right or not
