UPS wants $161 million and they have said they are going to get it one way or another...either bodies or voluntary give backs. UPS has even said and I quote,
“We understand the impact a furlough would have on our people, so it is our fondest hope that enough of our crewmembers agree to help their fellow employees,” he said. “In the end, we must act to preserve the strength of our business, and we hope to do so through a win-win resolution of this issue.”
Even though it's a slap in our face that the CEO is getting a multi-million dollar bonus and that we make $40 million in revenue daily, we are going to give $161 million back to the company. Now that the company has publicly announced that they are they good guys "...our fondest hope that enough crewmembers, etc etc", it places the monkey on the rank and file's back
"I'm not trying to be saracastic, but the MOU gives us the opportunity to get the monkey off our back.
Essentially, the time for finger-pointing at the company is over. Yes, this bean counter excercise is their fault, but they have given us an opportunity that our frineds at United/Delta/American/Northwest, et. al were not given.
So you can point your finger at the company or unify.
Working backwards, thank you for signing up, you may save 300 jobs, 300 more displacements to ANC, 200 Capts losing their seat, and a lowering of quality of life, for possibly yourself.
However, your comment about telling me how to vote on the next contract is insulting.
You want me to vote in a unified manner whereas, the unity is available RIGHT NOW, to stop furloughes and it's looking pretty grim that it won't.
I pay dues like you, and will take a 3 year, 100% paycut so others can enjoy their nice retirements, and full pay. In the next contract I will only vote in a contract that repairs my three year vacation (longevity and retirement), provides for a no-furlough clause and provides retro pay for furloughees. After three years of furlough, I've given 100% at the office, I take offense to being told what is best for me.
If you get laid off I wish you the best...trust me, there is nothing good in any furlough. Once the company sees how effective a furlough is, they will be more than happy to wave that stick at us again and again..just ask your friends at the legacy carriers.

The IPA is the first , possibly only, union to try and mitigate a furlough in this manner. They, the IPA leadership, took a risk of shifting the percieved accountabilty for the layoff from UPS to the IPA.
You indicated that you are a TWA /AA laid off, did they even try or expose themselves to a potential failure, not from what I can determine.
Did they really try to help you, nope. The IPA and pilots here are trying and you come up with cumulative bitter cr%p from you past experiences.
I still wish you the best if you get laidoff. By the way I have been laid off numerous times, no one ever offered to do anything close to what is being attempted here.

If you read my post you will find that I indicated you may vote as you please. I just indicated the probable result of a vote for your stated reason.

HD, Freighpuppy (especially), and others insulting other crewmembers who have decided not to participate, you all are way out of line. How dare you think you can decide for others what they are capable of doing. I do this job to make money and take care of my kids and I don't blame anyone if they feel they are putting their personal futures at great risk.
