Default Banger--FDX

FDX MD-11 guys,

We've got a sick FO on our hands...SW...a block 7 bro, fellow Eagle driver and all round great guy, has found out he gets to go a few rounds with a tough cancer. Today's message line has details, but bottom line is he hasn't been around FDX long enough to save up 6 months of sick leave and vacation, and we've got about 6 weeks where we can PDO bump him and help him build up his banks for the months ahead.

I've been proud of this crew force for standing up before...we all pitched in to help Jon Bewley a few years back. SW is not a new hire like Jon, but every bit of leave he can save will help in the months ahead.

Please check your email or the Alpa website for specifics...but any help is appreciated.

Great guy...lovely wife of many years and a wonderful daughter about to start at the Citadel. All of them can use your prayers...

Please contact me at (my name)@alpa.org if you have any questions. I'm in VIPS as well. I'd publish here but bots will spam me forever if I do so, but my mug and other info is on the block 7 link on the site.

Albie,

I don't know this guy but I fully support the idea of the crew force supporting our sick "brothers." At a previous airline we had a better system for supporting this kind of cause. I've emailed my block reps and the NC chairman with my idea and have received little (no) support.

Here's how it worked at "Brand X." In order to donate to a sick crewmember, ANY crewmember in ANY seat on ANY airplane could designate his trip earnings (trip hours x rate of pay) to the sick guys sick bank. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that a widebody Captain donating to a 727 s/o goes a REALLY long way.

It's a NO COST item to the company and seems like it would be an easy option to set up in VIPS. Maybe you can generate some support for this concept? I hope so ... I might need it one day

Regards ... Mark

Mark...good ideal...I'll float it up...certainly a contract 2010 option...

Haz...you are the second person to ask. I think we'll need to query the ACP in this case. Standard answer would be "no", but this is a very non-standard situation. I'll fire off emails tomorrow.

Default Bidding

What trips would YOU like to see him bid for September that would be better for PDO?

Hub Turns?
Long Weekends?
DHs?

Any other ideas?

I looked but couldn't help in August (trip conflicts).

Albie, I'm in for one once the September schedules hit.....

I'm not an MD-11 guy yet, but will be soon. Count on me in a few months.

Don't think you can bump cross domicile unless you're a flex.

Just curious...
don't we have long term disability available when we have exhausted all of our sick/dsa banks?
