FDX 200 retirements come OCT?
Anybody else heard this rumor?
Supposedly ALPA is too backed up with guys bailing to give them individual retirement briefs. But 200 guys are allegedly looking to go after Vacation is awarded.
Bear in mind it was from a LCA, a different guy but same type of source who told me 2 years ago Indy was a done deal as far as a domicile.

Won't happen. 4a2b will be lifted and the numbers will make flying after age 60( or 65 rather) worth it again.
And as just an interesting side note, I had a global travel agent share an observation with me yesterday. She commented that I was the first person she has booked a flight for since being required to enter birth date info on reservations to be born after the 1950s.

Nice rumor. Someone could have started this just to see how fast it would spread. Could be true. Which gives it a fighting chance to become a fantastically popular rumor. I'll reserve any belief till it happens. We won't have to wait long.
I'm thinking 200 in 2010, not 2009.

Wonder why the company is taking their time working the excess? 4a2b. The arbitration has just started. The possible forced lifting of 4a2b will be in 2010 at the soonest. Has to do with the work left to be done on the schedule of the arbitrator.
It's cheaper just to let folks sit at reduced averages as more than a handful of DC10 crewmembers are still sitting at home and the uncertainties of retirements and economic recovery play out. Lots of folks unable to drop R days due to insufficient reserves. Scheduling is so happy about their efficiency right now.
It also lets the company put folks thru recurrent and training at reduced pay. This has got to be saving the company a ton of $ to run the 757 schoolhouse. 777 training is starting up soon to. This 4a2b is a magical thing when it comes to cutting costs. Even if the company has to pay for using it I bet the settlement will only be a fraction of what they gained from it.

A few weeks ago we received a union communication asking for crewmember's inputs for Contract 2010. Among my inputs were ...
- trying to negotiate that anyone flying past age 60 remains in a reduced pay 4.a.2.b status until retirement
- I was once a single issue voter ... NORMAL RETIREMENT REMAINS AT AGE 60 OR I VOTE NO. I've reconsidered that now. I now want to negotiate a significantly worse retirement package, I figure we'll have a chance to fix the damage done after the ND's retire
It's the least we can do to repay our brethren that bent us over and stuck it to us (and no, for those that inevitably ask, I didn't enjoy it ... )

There will always be NDs around. We need to get used to it.
Let's not crash the retirement we have because someday you and I will need it. What we should focus on is the change agenda we bring to the table next year. Pay and work rule adjustments should be focused on improving the life during the early years and flatten out toward the end. The NDs are staying because the benefits keep coming. If they come to realize it isn't worth working til death, maybe they will leave.

There are guys that are junior because they are the last ones we hired, and there are guys that are junior because they choose to be. Two totally different animals in my eyes.
