Don't know about your second question, but I assume most, if not all, of the 50 vacancies will be for FOs.

Does anyone know the # of pilots that are currently still assigned to the DC8? If there are any less vacancies than that there will be furloughs.

Spoke with BC in Manpower last week and he indicated most of the vacancies would be in the lower 48. He said the A300 was understaffed and the staffing in ANC was about right. I am always skeptical, but that is what he said.

I don't think it is a coincidence, nor is it a hidden cause of our overstaffing. Do you see some sort of a conspiracy here to get rid of younger folks unnecessarily?
