Quote: I still think you are nuts for doing all of that--especially giving your sick leave. I can't do this job for half pay and it really undermines us in the next round of negotiations when UPS knows that plenty of us are willing to work for less money. I know blah, blah, blah it's not half pay it's half pay for half work. I get tons of time off already and don't need or want more.

I think the MOU is a bad idea, but that ship sailed months ago. Now it's about doing what is best for the situation we're in. Hopefully, UPS takes the deal and everyone stays put.
Well that's you. I personally would want RDG to be in every contract. I like the option of staying at home more with my son. I don't have the luxury of being able to sit reserve at home in SDF. My fiance is based in ORD and his parents watch the little guy on schedule overlaps and they live 5 minutes from us so I'm kind of stuck in IL.

UPS can think what they want but just because we were willing to volunteer to save jobs this time around doesn't mean we will fold for contract negotiations. They wanted to open up the contract and we said no. Apples and oranges IMO.

Why do you think the MOU was a bad idea? What would have been your solution? If UPS furloughed, your pretty life in SDF would be over. We'd be freezing our wing dings off in ANC....of course since your wife stays home, you'd probably move up there and get to continue your wonderful life of reserve up there. All of us don't have that option. I am for the MOU and it just floors me how little regard people have for 300 guys/gals on the chopping block. People just can't seem to put themselves in other's shoes these days.

The potential problem lies in if they think we're willing to give up something to put this in the next contract. I'm not, and doubt you are either.

Freightpuppy--I don't think ANC is in my future and won't move there in any event. I'm not a socialist. Sometimes crap happens. It's not the IPA or UPS's fault. We can't even blame the Favres. The economy crapped out, loads decreased and we became overstaffed. If you feel the need to go on half pay fine, just don't blame me for wanting what is best for me and the family.

I guess what I'm saying is that I've cut my hours to the point that it hurts and can't do more. I don't question others who don't participate in the MOU. You can't blame the IPA/UPS if there is a furlough. "It's the economy stupid."

When did I blame you for doing what's best for you and the family? I don't expect anyone to give up as much as I did because it's a personal choice of how much you give. I think I gave a respecatable amount and anything beyond that (wanting to RDG 2010 and 2011 is 98% for selfish reasons...the other 2% is that I feel horrible if UPS does in fact furlough). I just think that the fact that one can give as little as one hour of sick makes it inexcusable that we do not have 100% participation.

What does that have to do with anything? Are you saying that this is a socialist program? Everyone knows what a big pinko sideshow bob is, this just proves it!

We aren't socialists, I hope we are unionists

That is one of the problems. A big chunk of the 30% non participants think this is a socialist program and it is some kind of a Obama conspiracy to take money from them. They will never get it and it pains them that they have to be in a union in the first place until they need help themselves.

I don't judge folks who choose not to participate. I'd never GIVE the company my hard earned sick time. You criticize open time pick ups, but give away your sick cash. Crazy!!
