Being no Hollywood myself, I just gotta say that I've seen some really good looking female pilots start their freight dog careers, only to wither over the ensuing years. That's not to say some don't get through unscathed, but the vast majority aren't as pretty after a few years of night hub turns. Of course most guys don't do so well either, but then I never really looked at them.

I am ok with what ever the company pays. If a pilot is medically unfit they should collect from the plans. Child birth doesn't in its self make someone unfit.

there is something about the SDF hub that makes everyone old.

Well, I guess if she gives birth during her scheduled break you'd be correct. But, what if she said, "I need to go to the back, my water just broke"? I'd say she would be unfit for at least a short period.....and the mask would be welcome. Just sayin'

True, at the moment of child birth she would be unfit but, several months later. Just sayin'

757upspilot. Obviously you have never been pregnant or given birth. There are some people that are just fine 1 month after delivery and there are some that have major complications and have issues for a while. Medically unfit to fly is for a doctor to decide not a fellow pilot making assumptions. Let me be clear here? What is right? Should we fly until the day we deliver and come back to work a day after?

In addition, let's be clear about maternity leave benefits since I've actually used them. You get 2 months off before your due date and 2 months off after you deliver. First, they take and use all your sick and vacation time and then you get paid by UPS (not Mutual Aid). You get 66% of your guarantee which is supplemented by Aetna short term disability (I think it's about $180 a WEEK additional). After the 30 day waiting period for Mutual Aid, you get $100 per unit to supplement the UPS pay (not $500 per unit like the norm for Mutual Aid). When I had my son, I had so much sick and vacation that I actually got regular pay until 3 days AFTER I had him. Then I had my 30 day waiting period before I got ANY union funds. I got my $100 per unit for a month for a grand total of $900 from Mutual Aid for maternity leave. I did end up on medical leave later which was after I already got back from maternity leave at which point I "sucked off the Mutual Aid teat" (as you so eloquently referred to it) for a while but it was not related to maternity leave.
