FDX Agency Shop

Right now the agency shop clause that is agreed to gives a pass to the approximately 140 nonmembers as of the amenable date of the contract. Also they would not have to pay in the future. This was agreed to by our team based on management's reluctance to give us a clause including everybody for fear that they would be sued by one of the nonmembers. Our sides thinking was it was better to get an agency shop clause now for nothing than to try and get it later and have to give something up for it considering many of the nonmembers would be gone before the new contract runs out. Not pretty, but sometimes you just need the bag over the head.

Agency Shop

At least something will be better than nothing. Maybe we can charge the non-members more then the members. The members should get a ALPA discount on the agency shop dues.:D

I know your joking, but in case you're not legally a Union can only charge the dues associated with the administration of the contract, which for us is the same as an ALPA members dues if I'm not mistaken. I agree with you in spirit though ;)

Well I was being funning, but I got to thinking, if part of the dues pays for legal representation.....why couldn't we have a discounted rate for members? Maybe a "group" legal discount for those that belonging to the "group", other "non-group" pilots would just have to pay full rate. Hummm I get a "group" discount if I belong to AAA or AARP or whatever....Maybe a rebate at the end of the year for "group" members. Just thinking but since it's 3 am maybe I'm not.

Gotta say your gauge of 9% snap back and 3% per for 5 year contract sounds weak. Over two years waiting, so its really only a 3% raise then cost of living going forward? I have just been assuming a 7-10% instant plus 3% per year we wait (which would give us about 13-16% right now) then 4% per year at least, so we are at a minimum improving our life style every year. While I realize that pay rates are not everything, if we are getting trip rig down to 1 for 3, then minor pay rate changes would be fine.

I was really hoping for a 11-13% B fund not an 8. Who knows, it will be nice to see where this winds up.
