FDX - The financial impact of 4.a.2.b
Just got my Pension Plan statement which shows pensionable earnings of your high five.
Coincidentally, the last 5 years where my high five where I sat in the following seats:
B727 Capt 2 years
MD11 Capt 3 years
Now, I've been bumped out of the MD11.....here's the data on how 4.a.2.b. has stuck it to some of us. In my case:
2004 - B727 Capt - $175,000
2005 - B727 Capt - $207,000
2006 - MD11 Capt - $257,000
2007 - MD11 Capt - $244,000
2008 - MD11 Capt - 249,000
And, under 4.a.2.b. this year is shaping up to be $181,000.
That's a reserve B757 Capt that does ZERO carryover/make-up. I am interested to know what impact this "stealing" has had on others.
It's time for the company to do the right thing and exit 4.a.2.b. Some of us have taken a HUGE hit. I for one understand more than ever what being "junior" on an airplane means and I will NEVER do it again. Right seat wide-body here I come.

Look, we all know 4a2b was a grab. But, posting those numbers on this board and looking for sympathy might be a stretch, even from fellow FedEx'ers. There are some furloughed folks who read this stuff.
IMHO, the biggest hit you took was being excessed. No retroactivity, no Capt excess. No Capt excess, and even with 4a2b, you're doing just fine. So, I'd say DW did much more financial harm to you than PC, even if it was unintentional.

No sympathy for you from me. People are losing their homes and pulling their kids out of college due to this economy and you expect folks to empathize with you making a paltry 181K??? Last time you went to work with the fear of being laid off or downsized out of a job? Good luck struggling to get by on that $181,000!

DW and PC and a few others certainly share some responsibility for getting us into this situation. But let's not forget those that kept us there for far longer than would have been economically feasible, the DPers, Volunteers and Draftees.
I've never had a reason to eat eggs with PC or DW at midnight. How soon will it be before some of us forget the money those guys took from out of our pockets; and soon some of us will be eating omelets and grits in the cafeteria like nothing ever happened?
Perhaps posting those numbers was a bit insensitive; but the point is no less worth making.

"I'm only going to make $181,000 this year." WAH WAH!!
That's after coming out of one of the worst recessions in this countries history, without spending any of that time unemployed, while retaining all company paid healthcare, vision, dental and pension benefits. No sympathy here. Amazing
