I was curious as well so I did some googling.. and according to an article from 2007, the other captain sells health insurance. That seems so wrong, I mean didn't Fedex take care of these men at all? (Unless Captain Sanders is selling insurance simply because he enjoys it - then more power to him, but being a salesman doesn't seem like something a pilot who was forced into a catastrophic situation and now in his 60s would want to be doing unless he was financially strapped.)

Soon to be furloughed (number 5) at age 43. Now that's thrilling.

I just projectile vomited.

Glad to see Tucker back in the skies...very heroic crew.

Trust me, they WERE taken care of, as they should have been.

Great post! Way to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Captain Sanders and his crew WERE taken care of, very nicely, from what I was told, as they deserved. So your comments seem totally off base. Besides, I know a number of active pilots who have side businesses selling all kinds of stuff, insurance being one of them, and I'm sure that some guys who have been unfortunate enough to be furloughed, have found that insurance sales is a decent, honorable way to earn a living.

Times have changed. I'm a very junior 727 SO at 44~

Oh well-
As I recall, Jim bid and flew as an F/O on the DC-10 on the line at the time, but due to his position as a Proficincy Check Airman in the Training Dept., he was given a Captain check-out.

FDX-ALPA "1" and the company worked out a good deal for them, which I think they deserved.

Glad to see him back in the air!

Anyone who cares to read what happened to these guys get the book "Hijacked: The Real Story of the Heroes of Flight 705" by Dave Hirschman. It's a great read.

I'm not sure what you're talking about... I didn't mean any disrespect, it was more along the line of being appalled, they deserve to take it easy after what they've been through and I didn't know if he was still working because he had no choice (because Fedex had not taken care of him? now you and frozenboxhauler answered that question.) Like I said, if he is working simply because he enjoys it, great. Was hardly implying selling insurance was a bad thing.

I saw Andy Peterson in the Apple store last year buying a computer for his daughter. He seemed well.

Awesome news! I remember feeling so bad for that guy when they interviewed him and he talked about how he misses the career. He said he would see an airplane and always wonder where it's headed.

Andy is a friend of mine. We used to go to the same church. Just talked to him a couple of weeks ago. His son is about to be a senior and is interested in going to the AF Academy. Andy's doing well. He has a great family, and yes FedEx has taken good care of them.
