Everyone's individual circumstances are obviously different, but I'd be hesitant to take an immediate (before Peak) callback if I was currently in a stable/acceptable interim job. In that situation, I think it would be overwhelmingly unlikely the furlough job would allow you to return, if UPS were to turn around and re-furlough in the Spring. That being said, I think only those out the door in the last one or two rounds (still current, maybe need a PC for landings) would really be in this boat -- anyone let go prior would have to at least do a short course to requal before they could be used. Timing-wise, I don't think the training center could crank too many recalls through ST training to requal before Peak, especially if the training center manglers get pulled out to fly the line for Peak. So, if they're planning to recall and then refurlough, the number recalled will likely only extend to those still current or whose currency is easily regainable.

I think we can defer a recall for up to 1 yr, no questions asked (2 yrs if under contract)?

BOTTOM LINE: I would NOT trust these crackbabies to NOT recall for a brief time, then turn right around after the holidays and kick you back to the curb. That's logiiiiiiiiiiis-tics!

Hey dude,

Even those of us at UPS are confused. On a side note, pilots aren't considered real UPSers ... we're not worthy !

Up to date ...

109 on the street.

Total planned furloughs number 230. This number was recently reduced from 300.

170 have been given a furlough date prior to Nov 2010, with 10 more tentative to be furloughed Jan 2011.

Recently 25 about to be furloughed were offered continued employment. Most took it. This offer was made 2 days prior to their furlough date. And they were created a schedule for 28 additional days.

Now you know as much as the rest of us ...

Buck....what you are saying is probably not too far from the truth. I guess we will find out this week what they have to say.

Arrogance when combined with Greed can never be underestimated.

Not sure what your (UPS) requal training entails but I can tell you the long requal at FedEx (out > 1 yr but < 2 years) is short and sweet. A day of ground school, an FTD, 2 sims and a checkride. I bet your training department could crank out quite a few over October/early November.
Good luck to all the furloughee's.

Staff up for peak, then lay everyone off. Seems like I've seen this movie before...

Was it six (6) months off the property, then a few warm-ups and a PC.

Eighteen (18) months off the property and you get the full school.

Anyone else care to chime in on our requal requirements.

Those are the right time lines, and to delay your recall, at least until after peak, would be the prudent move.

Yeah, they are worried about peak. However, is it peak in August and September? This place is on the verge of implosion and we're in September... More airframes coming in the next few months and more next year, they've realized they have a problem IMO. As far as the 61 guys who were sent up to Anchorage in anticipation of furloughs... I think that's what they are working on during their latest meetings where they get things in writing.

While the timelines are roughly correct, I believe it's based on the number of CQ (i.e recurrent events) missed. One missed event is the short requal, 2-3 missed events is the long requal. Four or more is the full course.

Lately, it seems awfully quiet on the UPS front, besides the furlough suspension through the end of January, are you hearing anything else?

Best wishes to those who are currently furloughed and to those who are in limbo. I hope things turn around very soon.
