Long time reader but I haven't replied before...
I heard from a flight ops specialist during the pinning on ceremony today there will be two classes of 25 in September, 3 classes of 25 in October, and two more of 25 in November...that's 175 before Christmas. That should clean out the pool so get ready to dry off.

OK ... I give up. I've been a FedEx pilot for almost 12 years now ... what's a pinning on ceremony?

Something to do with new hires. Family comes in to the Greenway library and they pilots get their FedEx wings. Happens during some of the day turns. I've seen a couple so far. I think their sponsors are welcome to join them also. Maybe some of the recent hires can elaborate on this.

Plus they have some old Marine Recon Sgt. beat the wing into your chest till your shirt is nice and bloody..........Oops sorry, that's what the instructor does during F/E training. Sorry for the inaccuracies.
Actually it's not a big event. You show up get wings and your picture made with a member of mgmt, they do send a nice photo to your home, then it's off for a FREE lunch. I believe families have shown up before, but it's a long drive to MEM. On some instances a few FedEx friends who are in AOC may come in to watch.

I can second the above. I was in a class of 12. 9 of us were not "special" and interviewed 9 months earlier all at the same time. 3 were "special" and interviewed over 6 months later and were in class with us while other "non-specials" continued to swim in the pool that had interviewed over 6 months prior to the "specials". I hate to sound biased but once you are interviewd and put into the pool you should stand in line like anyone else. This policy affects your seniority level for your entire career.
