If you are considering UPS, please see a doctor and have your brain removed. It is the WORST possible place to work, add to that when they furlough you the only job you can get is flying ratted out POS airplanes in the sand.

Can't agree with you Jetjok.. since you are supposedly speaking for the great majority of ups'ers I also have to say ups is a good place to work overall..if not for the furlough I would rate it even higher.. wanted to provide the OP some balance to the typical one sided comments re ups on this site..

Petras,

First of all, I am most certainly NOT speaking for the "great majority of ups'ers", based on the fact that I work (or did) at FedEx. I did however, fly for UPS back in 1989, for a year, and keep in touch with friends who still fly for UPS. As I said in my post, I don't believe that UPS is a "good place to work." What I do believe is that UPS pays its pilots a good wage, and they have good benefits, like health insurance; retirement stuff; vacation, etc, etc. If you really feel that your company is a "good place to work", I'd suggest that you read every post in this thread, of which the vast majority have been written by your fellow UPS pilots, and again tell us that UPS is a "good place to work."

Quite right. If $$$ is the only consideration, a drug cartel can be a "good place to work." So can an organ harvesting business or a human trafficking operation.

UPS gives 5 weeks of Vacation after 20 years. Not Six. And one has to wait 9 years for that 5th week. Total BS. 9 years!

And FDX Commercials to Trips, while UPS puts ya in the back of a Freighter with a Cracker and molded cheese.

Easy choice. FDX hands down. UPS is a very demeaning place to work, the management are total ----

JJ,
Everyone is entitled to an opinion! I do consider this place a good one to work at. I don't like the way the furlough was (or is being) handled. I don't like how scheduling is always trying to get "creative". I don't feel that safety is the number one priority here. I don't agree with the way employees are treated. I also don't like the level of arrogance displayed by some in management (not just the airline). I am amazed how creative ideas are quickly discarded. It is somewhat like being back on Active Duty when fitness report time rolls around and everyone is scrambling around trying to "polish" their reports. Taking credit for someone's work. Covering up bad mistakes or not mentioning them at all. The list could go on.
-- I work with some great people here. There are many on both sides that try very hard to make this an even better place. Of course there are many on both sides that are always trying to drive a wedge between the two. You get out of anything what you put into it. I decided when this furlough stuff started that I was going to make the best of it. Otherwise I would move on to another job. I was not going to spend a career somewhere trying to get back at "them". It is just a job. I have channeled my stress into more productive means. You obviously took a job with FedEx after you were an employee at UPS. You had your reasons. I think that FedEx is a better place to work at the moment and I do not think that will change any time soon. Like I said earlier, UPS is ran by a "profit-minded group-think mentality" at the moment. Long term will tell if their short sightedness will have long term consequences. FedEx is thinking long term with their acquisitions and growth. You are fortunate to be part of an outstanding organization!
-- I continue to work for UPS not for the money, but because it is a good job. Could it be better? What do you think? I know too many people that **** and moan how awful this place is and they have been here for many, many years. If it is that bad, why are you still here? Because it is a good job. I don't think the doors will close anytime soon. There is no job in the world that does not have draw backs or down sides. UPS's labor practices could be their downfall. This place has changed in many ways in the short time I have been here. It does make me nervous how much they have changed since the days of Casey....but that is another story.
-- It is just a job. It is a good job.

Rocco,

Repeat after me.......It's all about the money, it's all about the money, it's all about the money. OK. Now take that out of the equation and tell us all again why you're working there. It just might be because you're delusional. Nothing personal, as everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how messed up it happens to be.

100% correct! The money makes it tolerable and keeps everyone around.

Fedex and ups pilots (and future wannabes)

Although I can't take credit for the quote, it's how many of us feel here at ups...."Best job I ever had, worst place I've ever worked!".....

I work here for the money plain and simple, both paycheck and future retirement. Anyone who says they are here for any other reason is delusional. There are many more flying jobs that would provide entertainment and self-actualization, but the bottom line is the stack of benjamins paid to me every two weeks and another stack deposited in my B fund by ups. I don't take the nitnoid antics of management personally; they are just trying to make do with bad decisions made by the higher ups in Atlanta.

Jetjok...it IS about the money plain and simple. It's all about the money. Show me a job where I can have as much time off (even with crappy schedules like we have) and get compensated the way we do, and I'll jump over there in a heartbeat. Ain't no such animal out there!

JMTC..
