While "training pay" should be adjusted to reflect a normal month of pay and provide for a hotel while in training (at a minimum) the simple fact is our 1st year pay is great, over 60 bucks and hour. A new hire will make about 60K working a normal year. I think in most worlds, especially one that revolve around flying jets, we are on the leading edge in almost every case.

Once again, I think they should be higher, but to claim "living" wage concerns is ridiculous in my book.

Are there hotels around the training center that you can get a room for $2000/mo. or less with transportation. Are they hotels that know what FDX newhires get paid and use that to there advantage? One would think that FDX might not want newhires to worry about lodging and just concentrate on school. I'm thinking too much again!

Seriously though, what's it cost a month for a hotel room for training and are they "rats nests" or descent?

If you search this forum for "mem hotels" you will see a lot of choices. The only place I stay is the Olive branch fairfield inn for 50 bucks a night. You can probably find cheaper but not much. Your only practical choice is a crash pad and an airport car.

I stayed at the Homestead for a few weeks until I made friends and got into a crashpad.

A mile to the training center, and the rooms have kitchens.

The rate was $40 a day or so if you pay by the week.

Hey, I am not trying to irk anyone. I think that they should at least spring for a room if not do that and raise the training pay. That having been said, I would "gut" it out to be there. But that is just me talking.....

Wow, that's actually kind of ridiculous.

Do they pay per diem also, or just a flat $2k?

Dudes,
You don't get a hotel or per diem. MEM is your domicile (unless you go to Hong Kong). Training pay is it. Is training pay ridiculous? Absolutely! Will you more than make up for it after 1 month on the line? Absolutely! We have new hires in ground school who've already been awarded wide bodies! It's like a Kenyan who stops to tie his shoe at the beginning of the Boston Marathon. Ya think he might make up a little ground in the first couple of blocks of the race? Or you could go to SWA and pay for your own training. A 5 year FedEx 727 Engineer makes as much as an 8yr 767 FO at United! The list goes on.

Try to look beyond the end of your nose.

Yes, so was having to buy a Falcon type rating when Federal Express first started.
