That $2000 is a non-union new hire pay rate of 20+ years ago. It just has been adjusted by inflation to be more in line with ALPA standards. Look at the bright side because I recall a first year ALPA pay of $600 a month which lasted until you finished one year of service. That $600 was a flat pay rate, fly 100 hours and the pay was still $600.

UPS has a newer fleet with no FEs, while growth at Purple is tempered by replacing 3 man jets for 2 man. (Can you imagine the hiring at Purple if they were replacing 757s like ups is rather than acquiring 757s to replace 727s?)
To Stay or Go: How is it a "no-brainer" that IPA is better than ALPA?!
Also heard that the pilot vs management group at UPS is hundred times worse than FedEx and that UPS is mainly a trucking company that employs pilots-mentality. Would like to get your two cents worth. Thanks!

Really? We are buying 777 at the rapid rate and can't get enough of them. If our growth is tempered then why are we hiring and UPS has guys on the street? If hiring 20 a month is tempered growth, bring it on!

68 727s now and 31 757s. In two years, 35 727s and 68 757s, and an additional 12 777s. Yep that is way too many 3 seaters being replaced by 2 seaters. Thinks look grim over here for all the new hires.

I'm fairly certain that your furloughed pilots would have much rather had 4.A.2.b than a furlough. With that in mind, I don't see how UPS is more attractive to them on this issue.

UPS management had 4.A.2.b. envy, and wanted their own tailored version of it to use at their discretion with no restrictions month to month.

While present events and trends certainly favor a job at Fed Ex, look back in history at the endless examples of "THE job". The only constant in this biz is change.

...Just not as much 'hope' as the "old days".

Remember United, Delta, American, Pan Am, USAir, TWA, etal....

Does FDX have any kind of shortened sim training for someone that has a type rating for an aircraft currently on property... say the MD-11?

Why can't this mentallity be switched around to where it is the cost of doing business for the company to pay a living wage from the start? Why is it that pilots are willing to give up so much and call it "investing in your job". Haven't we invested enough already to get to a position to be able to apply to Fedex or any other great job? Lets all have some respect for ourselves.
