Live only 40 minutes from YIP, went to EMU for a while (so I know the area), have 121 supplemental dispatch experience, and have some knowledge of jetplan (I think that is the program Connie uses). I know this is a pilot forum but can anyone give me advice/information as well?
I am not a CKS pilot nor have I ever been. I have worked for other small carriers at YIP in the past. I found that walking in the door and putting a face with the name with the DO doesn't hurt as long as your not a jerk. If you are that close it might be worth a try and they aren't responding now so what have you got to lose.

Well he definitely has the qualifications thats not the issue at all but he's currently employed and would take an initial paycut to go to CKS so he just wants to make sure all bases are covered before he leaves the comfort zone. I suggested to him that I would do some research on CKS over here. I appreciate all your assistance.

It's pretty rare for a new-hire to get axed. It does happen occasionally, but not before more re-training than would be afforded at most other airlines. They don't hire people with the intention of washing them out. There's a genuine need for crews and it serves no purpose to not give every opportunity for success. Make no mistake though, they will not just hand it to you.
Literally hundreds of people have been through the training with an extremely low wash-out rate. Sometimes it's simply a matter of being more than a person can handle, be it the lack of initiative, comprehension, and or flying skill.

And sometimes, very occasionally, its something else. When I was at the schoolhouse at Eagle, AMR decided to cut the number of sim hours needed for upgrades, which reduced the overtime sim instructors were getting. All of a sudden the number of upgrade failures skyrocketed. They went back to the old way, the overtime, and the pass rate returned to normal. Maybe it was the change in curriculum, and maybe there was a message being sent. Either way, there are guys with busts on their record that maybe didn't deserve them.

Another time and place had the Feds all over the training department. Things went from "Have a good attitude, and we'll get you through, even if you need a couple extra sessions" to "Don't fall behind even a half a session, or you're a wash out. We can't do any extra training." Just in the course of a month. I'm sure it was not the instructors making that call, but outside pressures were being applied. People got dinged up who might well have made it through at another time or place.

I have no knowledge of the situation in YIP, I've never even been there, and I'm absolutely NOT saying this kind of thing is happening there now or has ever happened there. Only that it is a fair question to ask, because it does happen, from time to time.

CKS laid off some FFers in the last 2 years. I do some outside work in the dispatch in field and I think CKS uses NAVTECH not Jetplan, but I could be wrong. Why dont you try driving the 40 mins to YIP and walking in if thats the place you want to work. Your not gonna find much about dispatch on these boards.

That is the consensus I'm getting. I just don't want to rub someone the wrong way by doing that or get up there and they say "no one is here."

Try calling and see if you can get an appointment with someone.
