If the B-777F is too crowded for a 5th crew member jump seating on a 12 hour flight, I suspect it's also too crowded for a 5th crew member to do ULR Ops. Just sayin' . . .

This has all been overthought.

Can a jumper be an inconvenience? Sure. Most of us are willing to be inconvenienced as a courtesy to a peer and coworker, as a professional act, and to help our fellow ALPA pilots exercise their contractual rights.

Others are too selfish.

That's about it.

Years ago, when international employee j/seat was allowed, I lost count of how many atlantic crossings I did on the MD-11 for attending mx training etc, several of them with CRA, and not once was I bumped (Thanks guys).

It seems the 777 has opened a whole new can of worms with regard to j/seat. How things change

As an MD-11 captain who will be moving over to the 777 in March of next year all J/S are more than welcome. All I ask is a cup of coffee during preflight. Cream, no suger. See you on the flight.

It's happened to me twice in the last 5 months. Not due to a d-bag Capt, but the Air France O2 configuration. Fair enuff. Lost a $7k trip over it.

Fact is the 777 is, to me, an unreliable commuting vehicle at this point. It's great it carries more freight and is more profitable, but there are generally no backups. Get bumped...you're toast.

Which is why I now BUY tickets out of my d/h bank to the max extent. I use it all. No more commuting on the company and turning some of those $ back in like I used to. Airline reliability is higher if you can believe that.

Nice airplane, but I avoid it now.

How much longer are we going to beat this dead horse??

Captain exercised his prerogatives as outlined in the FARS and company flight manual to deny a jumpseater.
Prevailing wisdom here is he made a bad decision.
No one has heard his side of this matter.
Over a hundred opinions expressed on this website.

Time to move on.
